evening, can anyone give me any tips in replacing the front grill/headlights on my 200 with the identical items of a 300. am i right in thinking that the front panel onto which the said items are attached also requires replacing, any help would be appreciated

you can change the front panels or modify your one with a hammer and a drill

when you buy the head lights make sure you get the ajusters

mine is a 200tdi with 300 lights in i didn change the front panel, the lights are fully ajustable for alighment, it passed the mot and i can see where im goin in the dark and they haven fell out yet

thank you mark-d & sambodisco for your replies hopefully by uprating to the later headlights it will improve the intensity of my present headlights & prevent the tarnishing the n/s one is starting to suffer from.

this conversion was covered in one of the magazines a year or so ago, it seemed one hell of a lot of work just for bigger lights, they were cutting and welding all sorts of stuff

I've got some 300 lights for mine , might get chance this weekend to do it, I made a template of a 300 front panel so i know where the adjusters go, doesn't look like a bad job just a bit of time with the file getting the shape of the adjuster hole right.
I prefer the 200 front, but need better lights, I'll try to get some pics of the job.

I could do with a copy of the template - if it can be published or pm'd I would be very grateful (I've got all the bits, just need to cut my front panels)

Cheers, Peter.

Sorry for not acknowledging you replies but due to work commitments i don't always get time to fire up the old computer. Dent I'd be very interested to hear & to see how you get on with your modification, personally i think it might be worth the time & effort just to have an better night time vision. The thought of binge eating carrots does not appeal to me.

If you prefer the older front, then couldn't you just renew any tarnished lamps & fit legal uprated 60% brighter Xenon gas filled bulbs (still filament of course). Ring do a decent set which I've found to be a brilliant upgrade on previous cars for around the £20 mark.

i didnt use the plastic part of the adjusters just drilled the front panel and tacked a nut to it and screwed the threaded part with the ball on into it. that looked an easier option and was easy they was in within a couple of hours

the problem i have is that both headlights are badly tarnished & they definitely will not pass the mot, I'd thought about getting the headlights re-chromed like i did for my mgf headlights but this can work out quite expensive. So the other option would be to carry out the full facelift but thanks a lot for the info.

stupid question mark-d as well as fitting the bigger headlights did you have to modify the front panel with regards to fitting the later grill & indicators
