I am considering upgrading the headlights on my RRC – partly because the current ones are pretty poor (on dip beam, at least) and partly because the original lenses look quite tired.

I’ve seen quite a few “crystal clear” lense replacements advertised, some with these “angel eye” halo sidelight rings, some without. I reckon they’d probably look OK (not sure about the angel eye bit!), but are they any good or usually cheap Chinese rubbish that is going to break in 3 weeks time? They seem to be about £30-£40 a pair, which seems cheap to me! All claim to be E-marked and MOT safe. These are the type of things I mean: Angel Eye Headlights RHD Range Rover Classic headlamps on eBay (end time 19-Jan-11 10:42:14 GMT)

Incidentally, I’ve already got ‘uprated’ headlight bulbs already installed, but they haven’t done a great deal so I think the lenses are probably the biggest limiting factor.

So, best avoided or a worthwhile upgrade? The biggest thing is better dip beam lighting, but it’d be nice to ‘freshen up’ the front end of the old girl a bit too, without making it look tacky! Anyone fitted them to their RRC?

My lenses were ok so got the legal brightest ones from halfords. werent cheap though, think it werew 22 quid a bulb!

Yeah, I had some fancy Phillips Vision ones in the garage, which I remember did well in some headlight bulb test a while ago - I bought them for the missus' car online but they sent the wrong fitment, but wasn't worth sending them back! I knew they'd fit some car some day - and they fitted the Range Rover!

Anyway, these replacement units all over Ebay seem too cheap to be any good, but perhaps they are a bargain - anyone ever bought a pair?

Mike,
I had set of the angel eye ones you linked for xmas - haven't fitted them yet but they look ok.
We shall see.

I would not fit angle eye head lamps my self because I think they might look a bit cheap.
Some of the newer type of headlamps have plastic lens which I also don't like the idea of putting on my classic.
I would have through you would be better off buying some Wipac original type headlamps fitted with up rated bulbs.

I did the same as Spencer and got new wipac units and new bulbs, the difference was pretty good!
My old lenses were yellowed and the reflectors had gone a bit manky, you will be amazed at how good a nice new fresh set of OE lenses and some bright bulbs work at night!!!

Wipac lenses is what I upgraded too. The bulbs are the same wattage and voltage as originals so you don't risk electric woes.

A good upgrade and they do look the doo da's after the old ones were pretty tierd.

This is the only pic I can find at the minute but if you want more I'll get some done

I must admit those Wipac ones do look rather nice! How much are they?

I agree, think angel eyes may look a bit chav which is not what I'm after - just want clearer lenses and brighter lights!

ring automotive halogen lamps and bulbs from paddocks for about £22 , they are loads brighter than the standards like 5 times and cheap and very easy to fit!

my original lights are useless on dipped but need to get them for LHD as in France - just checked out Paddocks and ones you quoted are for RHD only but they do have a set without ring for LHD.
Are these any good?

go buy wipac "crystal" ones with the beam pattern bit incorporated into the reflector..

then fit good quality 4300k h4 (duel hids) hids...

its like having the eyes of a child again...can see so much better on those twisty roads.

Lights on my white rrc were crap when purchased. Replaced lamps using local factors. Not sure of make. Improved it no end. Look on my album for what they look like.

Plus I DID buy a set of them angel eye lamps. Going to fit them after rebuild. I'll take some pics when they are in.
