Hello all,

This is my first post here, great forum.

I live in Nassau Bahamas.
I have always wanted a Defener 90 but could b=never afford one.
I have substituted over the years with Suzuki,Mitsubishi and a CJ-5 that I still own and drive. But I want a Defender!

My dream is finally coming true, due to the worlds economy I am finally able to buy a used Defender 90.
I have a friend in the UK that has purchased a 2003 defender 90 Hard Top TD5 for what I think is a reasonable price.
So next week it will be inspected and serviced then shipped to the Bahamas.
There are no real Land Rover dealers in the Bahamas.

My question is;
What would be a good list of parts to purchase in the UK to ship in with the 90 so that I can keep it serviced for a couple years.
filters, brake pads?????

Not that I know of, however there are 3 or 4 Defenders and a bunch of Discovery's on the island, there is some guy that claims that he is a factory trained Land Rover mechanic but I understand that he does not stock many if any parts.
So I wanted to try and be prepared with basic parts. Anything else I can FedEx in from UK.

In that case, top of your list should be a nanocom diagnostic computer. They are about £230 here in the uk.

spare filters, injector, in tank fuel pump, maf sensor, egr blanking kit, injector seals, copper washers, oils, antifreeze, thermostat, all coolant hoses, expansion cap, temp sensor, crankshaft sensor

yep,stuff it with all the parts.reckon 1k uk pounds would be about it for a good while.
 
heres a pic of the 90 that im importing, its an 03 TD5 with 47K miles.

out of interest why on earth did you go for the TD5? i am going to be importing initially one then more land rovers into belize for myself, and i have and will continue to opt for the TDI engines over the TD5
 
I was trying to get the newest and least mileage that I could afford.

Is the TD5 the worst engine out of the 3? (2oo/3ootdi and TD5)
I still have time to back out, all that I will loose is the inspection cost,.
 
basically the TD5 has an ECU, so you need diagnostics equipment at the least.

the 200/300tdi engines have minimal electrics, and are simpler, making it far easier to maintain. if you look at the majority of expedition land rovers they are tdi engined because mechanics will be able to fix them almost wherever you go.

indeed land rover still sell ROW spec vehicles, i.e vehicles that dont have the newer engines but the 300tdi for the rest of the world, where there is no dealer network and so on

if you are able to i would suggest going for the best 200 or 300tdi you can find, or buying a new ROW spec vehicle if you have that sort of cash, i remember seeing some row spec vehicles in one of the land rover magazines

Ah FFS, same old **** being trawled up!!

Times a changing, move with em!!!

We dont all drive model T fords now do we???
