I am looking to change from 255 x50 x19 to 255 x55 x19 for my summer tyres this will increase the diameter by approx 3% anyone see any major probs with this - I think the extra profile will just add a bit more comfort. I am using 255x55x18 winter tyres

Apart from 3% being negligable, do all four together, and theoretically so long as they fit in the wheel arch / don't scrub on steering, it shouldn't give a hoot what size ya fit!!

If all this stuff about the MOT and type approval is correct, there are going to be a lot of non standard non type approved wheels for sale on Ebay soon.

it will be interesting to see what they put in place bet as usual it will be from manufacturing date blah blah and whilst I am ranting just got a thing in to renew my drivers licence picture and the government want 20 quid for the privilege another f ing tax

Got to go for a medical for my French HGV/ Caravan towing licence on Monday, feel like **** at the moment so it will be luck if I pass! €30 for the medical, €7 for the photo's on official paper, but the licence renewal is free I think it is, at least it say's nowt on the form about paying. Car licence lasts for ever here, my wifes still has the picture of her at 25 which to say the least was quite a long time ago!

Must admit we are seriously considering moving to France my sister lives over there we just need to get the youngest finished school it is all taxes hate it

I reckon I've got about another 5 maybe 6 years and then I'm off to the land of wine, cheese and long smooth empty roads! ;-)

Friendly gentle people in the West of France and as you say super roads, and as a pensioner low taxes. The big plus is the health service, in the provinces it is superb:D:D:D

I know it's a bit off subject but what's it like running a Rangie in France? You know parts and the like?

Parts for any car are expensive in France, it's cheaper in most cases even with postage to order from the UK. I had a whole rear bumper assembly shipped from the UK, it was still more than €100 cheaper than France. All the P38 parts are available though from Landypoint in the Dordogne and they speak English.
I even get oil filters for my Transit from the UK.
But no road tax and fuel is a little cheaper, diesel has only just topped £1 a litre in the last couple of weeks.:D
If you move down my way I have a multi vehicle Faultmate. Always welcome to come see, I have a Gite I'll do at a good rate for Landy Zone.

Lol! I have a French driving licence too, from when I was 18! Brilliant and gets me out of tickets all over the world too. ;)

Also, just looking at LR Direct website, they do free postage UK and mainland France.

Yep I park my Rangie on the pavement too when I visit the UK in true French style, as long as there is room for pedestrians prams and wheelchairs. Aint paying £3 an hour for parking:D:D:D

Yeah it's amazing how many people pay fines for having wheels on the pavement and obstructing it, in the eyes of a traffic warden, when they don't need to. It is not illegal to drive onto or off the pavement or have wheels on it, just illegal to drive along it. As long as there is room for two normal prams to pass each other there can be no obstruction. Told that by a copper years ago.

If the Wardens say anything, we just say we don't understand LOL and as my wife is French she can lead off at them a treat, they usually give up and walk away:D:D

Another way is to cover your face in gravy browning, wear a long robe and silly cap. You don't get bothered for anything then.:D:D:D

I've got a mate who lives in Argenton Les Vallees, 79150
Is that anywhere near you? It's lovely round there.
Is it me or do the French love playing darts? Next to eating and drinking it seems to be the national past time!
