Tyre imports..

Has anyone here bought tyres from the States?
I currently have 4 X 31/12.5/15 Procomp muds and am desperately seeking a 5th as a spare. These seem to be very hard to get hold of in the UK, after emailing loads of suppliers have come to the conclusion that I will have to buy from US and get it sent over the pond.
Has anyone on the forum experience with importing tyres?
Am wondering how much I would get stung with duty?

basically it would be 17.5% VAT on its value + shipping + 4% duty as well and any other costs that the import company charge.

They are "probably" hard to get because of another stupid euro law that affects tyres now. They now must meet a "noise" rating or "s" mark, and unfortunatley the "cheaper" offroad or MT tyres are the ones that will get hit and most likely be unavailable as the smaller manufacturers / retread companies wont bother trying to meet the new regs due to the probable costs involved.

Theres a new thing here,a wheel thats not got an e mark on it wont pass the nct(irish mot).You should check with your mot people first I think its some new EU law.

Crikey never thought it would be due to any legislation.
The set of 4 were originally bought from Craddocks about a year ago, apparently they can't buy 'em in that size anymore.

wired thing is I've just seen that they are made in Findlay Ohio, i'm supposed to be flying out and staying in Findlay 2weeks time for work. It really is in the arse end of hicks-ville very strange coincidence

Why not buy some out there and ship them back to yourself? You can get around the import charges by sending them back as warranty replacements - this way you can still insure the consignment to the true value but you won't have to pay any tax. Or bring them back on the plane! You might find the airlines will happily accept them if you book them in as oversize luggage. You can legally bring back a certain amount of goods value tax free.

Or send one back as a gift for someone, plaster Happy birthday' cards and stickers all over so customs get the idea .. that's also free of import tax ..
