HI, iam new to all this and am seriously in need of some help. only brought my car 4 months ago, its been recovered and in the garage 3 times in the 4 months so bit stressed.

my tyre burst yesterday, so need to buy a new one, easy, or so you'd think. my spare turns out to be a 16 inch where as the rest are 17 inch so its illegal so i dont have a car until its sorted.

i got the number 225 55 r17 but i now need to give the 'speed rating letter'................can i find it...no. and the car is now at home, ive had to get a taxi to work, so i cant go and check, can any one else me? can any one tell me what the speed rating is for that tyre. i have a freelander td4 is that helps.

thank you sooooooooo much xxxx

depends on how fast you want to drive, there,s no point buying high speed rating if your only going to be doing 30 -50 high speed tyres are for doing a lot of motorway driving your local tyre sales will advise you [does,nt meen you have to buy of them.....]

tyres have to match the oem for speed rating or you insurance might be compromised

Who said it's illegal? Whats the tyre size on both the 16" and 17" rims? You will probably find that the overall radius is the same. Many cars with 17" alloys have 16" spares. Also space saver tyres are much narrower than standard tyres and often on different rim sizes but they aint illegal.

Utter cock. I have 31 x 10.5 x 15 tyres on the vehicle, but the spare is a standard Pirelli Scorpion that's 16" and about 2" or so smaller on diameter ... it's an emergency tyre is all, to get you out of an emergency situation, it's not a replacement for what's on! So long as it's in good condition with legal tread and inflated correctly you can use anything within reason.

Admittedly I'd prefer all five to match, but the economies of that are beyond us for now.
