During a speculative conversation with leccy teccy type on the "twin alternator instead of splitcharge" subject recently, the use of an electrically operated clutch pulley (as found on air conditioner compressors) was suggested. In theory.

I have had a search around and cannot find anything on this, soo...can anyone point me to any posts, or share experience?

Before any/everyone jump(s) down my throat, the reason put forward for such an install were that the second unit takes X horsepower to run when its charge is not required,so a voltage sensing unit could engage the clutch pulley when it is, thus reducing load on engine and saving fuel.

I remain, shall we say,yet to be convinced - I have not done the various sums to work out whether this makes sense or not, theoretically, but would be interested to know if anyone has actually done anything like this. Clutch-wise. As it were.
