My discovery series 2 starts first time without any problems and it does not smoke at all. It is suffering from serious lack of power so I assume the turbo is not working. The throttle only seems effective at low revs covering about 1/5 of the accelerator peddle travel or thereabouts. You can slowly push the peddle to the floor but nothing happens except a very very slow increase in road speed and obviously a kick down effect on the auto box when the peddle is floored, I also get very very slight forward surges in power. Any ides would really be appreciated.....

I would go for air flow meter...
Find a mate with a disco like yours and swap the air flow meter, it's an easy job, and see if it makes a difference.
Just to be sure, before you go and spend money on one.

I've got my money on MAF sensor or Turbo wastegate sticking which causes overboost. As I don't use my TD5 that often I regularly have to give the wastegate rod a quick twitch before I use it.

Thanks for the reply, I have found a guy with diagnostic equipment for the Disco so I'm going to let him check it out, its only £25 (and if he replaces the part the diags are free) so I feel this will save a lot of hassle in the long run. I will post the outcome tomorrow, many thanks for your replies.......Pete

hi i am very new to discos but i had a similar prob with my tdi 300 .it was fine around town ish but when you pulled anything it was use less.after reading the posts i decided to clean the inter cooler .as i remove the pipes i noticed the two short pipes from the top of the intercooler had little splits in them . changed them and hey presto back to normal.like i said i dont know if yous is similar but feel the need to help where i can

Hi have just been to a local garage and the problem was a defective gasket on the inlet manifold, this was discovered after much time spent looking at other possibilities. There was some very good advice on offer here though and the guy who fixed my disco went through all the things mentioned here and also ran diagnostics which didn’t help much either. He said he had never seen a disco with this problem before as when you touched the inlet manifold it actually moved from side to side. Anyway turbo full on now and flying .......... Thanks for all your replies Pete Hammond

Frankly I was gob smacked as you could rock the inlet manifold from side to side. How then engine even worked at all was unbelievable yet it started first time and ran perfectly except for the turbo WEIRD or WHAT - Thanks again for the advice.........
