I run a 2.5 petrol 90 and fancy giving it more grunt. Was going to go down the 200TDi (ex disco) route but am wondering whether to tune the petrol lump with Automotive Components bits. Reasoning is : - I put a replacement Automotive engine in about 11 yrs ago when I seized the original engine. It has a Stage2 head and is actually reasonably quick. The engine is sound and good so i am pleased with what Automotive delivered. To take it further I would put on their SU carb kit, plus different pipework that they supply. Might also consider the cam option but that is not so easy/bolt on obviously.

Doing this is easier than the TDi swap. Downsides I can think of are fuel economy stays rubbish (but I dont do that many miles that it is an issue), even modded not as much low down torque as the 200TDi, and I don't get the nice diesel noise.

Up sides are lower costs for the carb and cam, easier fix so more 'standard'.

Does anyonehave any experience of the Automotive carb and/or cam mod to the petrol engine and if so what do you think of it?

Thanks

breathing can be improved but don't think it is worth the effort.

Yep - that's my thinking too but thought I'd see if anyone had gone the carb/cam route on a 90 and were pleased with it. But it's a lot of dosh if it makes not much difference.

Gary217. ACR Powerplus, ah.. the carb and manifold is next bottle-neck. Before I went the full hog, at one point I lacked what you have - the head. Only had the carb & 'zhorst, yet it gave a very useful bump. It came into its own when you give it the lot. Cam, head, carbs & pipework.
