Hi all, can anyone tell me where on the 1999 land rover freelander the immobilizer is located? Mine is a 1.8cc petrol manual gearbox.

On the bulkhead, between the heater assembly and the bulkhead. It's not easy to get at, without many hours stripping down.

Why do you need to access it?

Is that correct on a '99 Nodge?

I don't think a '99 model has a separate immobilisation ECU. I think the central operation is performed by the CCU.

"The immobiliser" is made up of many components though. There is the coil on the steering column that picks up the transponder in your fob. On a '99 I think the CCU picks the messages up from the transponder, it then talks to the engine ECU to swap codes and in between obviously the networks. The CCU operates a relay to enable or disable immobilisation of the crank feed from the ignition switch and the ECU will cut fuel to the injectors.

I'm sure there are various bits I've missed as well, together with your regional settings in the components that may disable some of this occurring.

The CCU is located on the back of the passenger compartment fuse box and does lots of stuff other than immobilisation - eg alarm, electric windows, sunroof, opening the back door etc etc.

There is a full description in the LR Rave Workshop Manual. There's info on downloading it here....

It needs a Windows PC to run and there's instructions in that thread on how to install and use it. The description will say where the different bits are and there are also full electrical wiring diagrams in there.

I think so. The CCU does locking and potentially alarm signal handling, but I'm sure the immobilizer ECU is buried behind the heater box.

Hi guys, i tore apart the entire dashboard searched all wiring ends took off the heater blower, ac unit...am thinking that Nodge68 is right its probably built in the CCU Box...

I thought the immobilizer was behind the heater unit, like on the later FL1. GG thought it was in the CCU on the early FL1. ;)
