Just completed the first of the test trips with my ex mod 2.5 n/a to ypres in Belgium(via Calais) from Bournemouth. i did have all leaking stuff resealed, full service and a general look round for faulty stuff(universal joint replaced).

She did not miss a single beat, was very economical and as she is is still in full military colours(and its near D day anniversary) the french loved her. And the police didn't pointlessly pull a brit over either. The cab was getting a little warm but open flaps are nearly as good as air con, and dont cost anything to operate.

Will have to check my gearbox oil cooler as sometimes these get turned off to warm up the cab in winter. As for the french and Belgium roads, absolutely brilliant...makes ours look like c class roads.

It was 60mph all the way, any faster is just pushing it. Did 50-55 mph on the way back as a bit of engine sympathy and just because i can :)

Mine is an ex mod type and the radiator sits near the main rad...sorry that should read oil cooler, not gear box cooler....i think :0

Nice trip. Did my first longer road run in mine at 50-60 (depending on road type) and was quite happy and comfortable throughout.

At least you shouldn't get done for speeding!

Yeah, not even downhill.

60mpg seems to be the ideal cruising speed, although I'm quite frustrated at how quickly my 90 slows down on hills.. dropping down to third gear on a hill is always needed.

Same here, I have a hill on my way out from the house with traffic lights at the bottom so its always a 30mph cold engine slog with a que of traffic behind me.

Same here but it teaches you to read the road!

Gear changes have to be precise, if you change to early or late your buggered and left with zero power!

Yep, I can't imagine how frustrating it is to be stuck behind us, belching out black smoke.

My 3rd gear synchro is bu**ered too, so changing down is a delicate process. Got to match the revs perfectly.

When people sit too near my rear I drop it a gear and lay down a smokescreen!

(Doesn't make me to any faster tho!)

I left mine in 4th once up a long hill and revving it quite hard. When smoke started coming out the guy behind backed off loads.

I'm always willing for a push from the car behind if he so wishes. Don't think it'll do much harm to my bodywork. Also people who don't let you into their lane to turn right don't seem to notice our bumpers are made of steel...

yep,
she is still going strong. Deliberately stacked way to much camping equipment in the back, me the missus and our dog(with metal cage(he is a little ****)) just to stress any parts. Journey was from shaftesbury devon in the pouring rain at a steady rate, and not sparing the horses :)
Did not miss a beat, nothing went wrong and everyone eyes turned to her at the camp site...including a guy with a g wagon(who was having problems with his tee hee). On the way back, gave her a good thrashing up hill and the only thing i was aware of was the the temp gauge moved a couple of mil from center. When we reached the top, temp back to normal. I love it :)

Mine cruise at 55mph. 60mph is pushing and screaming noise. Maybe it is I got the 1:6 transfer as issued for the army as it is ex military. If I swapped to 1:4 will that make it huge different ?

Mm looks like I will need to change the tranny on mine to 1:4 and have it tuned by speclalist diesel garage. And will need to add pas on and that is it. It is good engine this 2.5n/a but I think the 1:6 tranny is holding it back. Cheers

Not sure which I have, other than its a ex military fitted for radio 110. My mates 110 ex military soft top goes quicker, but I would think it's because of the weight ?
you must check stuff like similar seized hand brakes, blocked fuel filter and sediment collecter is free of water and mung.
