Hello,

My 2004 Defender TD5 has a 1/2" drain plug like the photo below, rather than the bolt and washer. Does anyone know the part number for this? I can't find it on any of the parts diagrams.

Thanks

Thanks jamesmartin, that looks right.

Quick question: On the parts diagrams I have, the only mention of tyb500120 is the front axle drain plug on a Puma. Is this the original TD5 era part, or is it coincidentally the right fit?

608246 was the level and drain plug for all axles and level plug for t/boxes, tyb5 is the same but with a magnet attached

Thanks again.

I am about to do what is probably the car's first fluid change (I bought it last month with only 40,000 miles). Is it worth replacing the axle and transfer box fill plugs with magnetic ones, or is that a complete waste of money?

I'd replace with magentic ones; if there is a mechanical issue within, the swarf will be captured by the magnet, thereby allowing you to recognise there is a problem, as well as keeping the material from griding away inside, potentially causing further damage.

Thanks Sting Ray. Turns out the magnetic ones are cheaper anyway, so I'll replace all six plugs (axles and transfer box) with magnetic ones.

Cheers.

Where can I find the torque settings for the drain plugs on my R380 gearbox and LT230 transfer box?

The workshop manual only has the torques for the bolt and washer type plugs, rather than the 1/2" drive plugs in mine (I think the R380 is actually 3/8").

Hi, this YouTube says 30nm - not sure the source they use, but a useful little video anyway.

Please view it yourself to be sure I remembered it correctly :)
