Trackers and antitheft

Something someone said in another thread got.me thinking. Does everyone fit trackers or whatnot these days? My 110 csw project will be on the road soon and i see values sky rocketing so it might be a good idea especially as they arent exactly nick-proof.

What DO people fit to stop oiks stealing them?

Nothing, I've heard some somebody having theirs towed away from a shopping centre car park in broad daylight while people watched. Someone on ebay was selling pedals that had been chopped off presumably from where they went into a pedal box. If someone is professional and they want it then kiss it goodbye

If the thieving scroat is an opportunist like mine then you might get lucky(thankfully I got mine back courtesy of skytag). In my area that week one had been stolen every night Sunday til Thursday, mine was the last stolen and the first found. Two others were found parked next to each other in a local industrial estate and the other two were never found.

Just think multilayered security.

You want to stop the scrotes from taking it for a joy ride. Normally a simple alarm and good quality lock will do this. If not then it is going to be smashed up and burnt.
You can also fit a cutoff switch , that uses a few dash switches set a certain way to allow the vehicle to start.

The "breakers" taking it for stripping. Locks and alarms will help them move onto an easier target. A tracker may very well help you get it back if they park it up for a few days to check if it is being tracked, as @ Marmaduke found. But some are using tracker blockers. Also something like "smart water" as well asa deterrent will help if the police come across the vehicle with changed ID or as stripped parts.

Professionals taking it for sale abroad. Chances are these are the boyos going for the good stuff, if they take yours then chances are you have lost it.

But also think about it, if you have disklock, pedal lock, Gearstick lock, alarm, cut out switches, .....are you going to use them all , all of the time? A Mulitlayered approach allows you to tailor the level to the perceived risk.

Thanks guys. That question is the biggy isnt it...its what put me off motorbiking. Ten minutes of leathering everytime for a quick ride to the shops or a tee shirt and trainers and risk it???

I'll have a good think on the security thing and read around. Maybe just fit a blue light on top ha ha. Or a sticker in the window "POLICE: if driver is slim good looking and under fifty please STOP". Oh, no good...no police in Wiltshire
