Hi,

I'm looking to spend £6000.00 + current vehicle (£3-4,000.00) on getting a Disco with as much power as possible for very regular heavy towing work. What would be the best vehicle / vehicle & Mods to acheive this?

I currently run a 1990 defender 90 200tdi which i use to tow 2500kg trailer (+loaded up in van) around the hilly back roads of the chiterns. To make life more bearable i've added a full size Allard Intercooler, seriously over-fuelled it and recently added a Janspeed Stainless Exhaust (+ a kenlowe to help keep it cool) and need considerably more power than i've got as the towing weight is about to go to 3500kg again almost daily.

Fuel economy is irrelevant as i need the right vehicle for the job - as this is my business and i'm only getting 15-18 mpg now.

I'm having trouble finding decent specs online regarding BHP/Torque figures for various engines and i'm wondering if a 4.0v8i disco provides the torque i need low down or would it need much extra modding to keep me happy or would an engine swap be a better option?

Sorry for such a long post and to cross post forums but meant to post here originally oops!!

Any opinions welcomed.

thx for reply, but more interested in what revs the torque is acheived at and how tuneable each engine is. I reckon i want about 200 bhp and 250 ft-lb but as low down as possible.

+ if anyone has experience of acheiving this i would be grateful to hear from them.
