Just wandering what make tools everyone uses?
I am after a new set of screwdrivers and a socket set have been looking at the halfords professional range of tools and they seem quite good and not to bad prices either any thoughts?

Cheers!

Been done before...but..

If they suit your price range then the halfrauds pro tools are quite a decent buy...do they still do the lifetime guarantee?? They often have half price offers on the tool chest and tools so if you haggle/wait you may get a good deal...

Yeah they do but not on moving parts like the actual ratchet mechanism!

What about draper expert? not many people seem to use them anymore i guess they are quite expensive.

for tools with moving parts it's has got to be Bahco, never given me any grief and lets be honest they make the only adjustable spanners worth using.

Stanley, Mac, Britool, Blue Point and several odd old makes from way back.

I bought my first 'good' tools from a car show exhibit stands, they were selling off the stuff people had traded in, stuff that had been returned and repaired. You can pick up unusual tools from boot sales, from people who are giving up the more heavy repair jobs.

I mainly buy halfords pro for hand tools such as spanners etc. And for some stuff Clarke pro from machine mart.

I have a few (very few) snap on and blue point tools. I do honestly think they are so much better quality, but at that price difference I'd expect nothing less. When i win the lottery i'll increase my collection.

I have a few bergen, from occasionally seeing that Bergen stall at various car shows.

And i have quite a few electicrician types tools, knipex and another make i cant remember. My brother (spark) recommended. They are very good.

I'm in the motor trade and my tools are my living, so mostly Snap On.
I also have a set of Bedford AF ring spanners I bought before I left school 40 years ago :D:D Hell! I even have some Whitworth spanners but they're for my hobby of restoring old engines.

For the DIY enthusiast I don't reccon you'll go far wrong with Franklin.

I would of loved to have the income to throw at snap on when i was a mechanic but could never justify their prices. I still bought the odd tool off them that were worth it. I think just about everyone in the trade had snap on rachet screwdrivers as no other company made anything as good. Mind you at 90pound here for them it still 90 times more expensive than the hardware shop equivalent.
Most my tools are King Tony or Koken. Lasted well with no problems. Normally you loss tools before they give trouble when you buy quality.
Buy good brand open end spanners. You don't need many just the common sizes. cheap ones round off nut and bolt heads as they flex

My tools are mainly snap-on but I do have some Laser, Sealey, Stanley etc and even some cheap rubbish too. I tend to use the cheap rubbish for making my own 'special tools' out of or for when there is a risk of getting lost or damaged.

mine are mostly snap on but not a fan of there spanners and use signet cheapish and done me very well and available in long version which are of more use, knipex for pliers circlip and other as ratty cheap spanners ideal to make special tools ie 19mm shortened and slot cut in ring end for adjusting 200 tdi hand brake cables ,13mm with slot in ring end for adjusting defender /series clutch rods in pedal box ,24mm 0r 15/16 openended cut down and ground on thin on edges for pump solenoids , get a few good qulity sockets for things like caliper bolts and flange bolts as used on front timing covers etc 10mm 13 mm and 15 mm usualy covers difficult ones

Shop around, beware of buying from USA as the duty can stuff any savings made...

Preloved | snap on used tools for sale

these sort of sites gives you an idea of prices, keep your ear out for peeps retiring so may wish to cash in their tools...also aircraft tools are blinding quality and cheaper than most.
