what would be the benefit if any to have my freelander re-mapped

i have heard that theycould improve performance and mpg

the synergy II unit from roverron is reputed to be the best available, and releases extra power from the td4, which your profile says you have. Simply plugs into the exisiting wiring loom, and unplugs just as easily when going to the dealers (if you do) Also, replacing the maf helps in conjunction with the synergy II. Finally, an EGR bypass will also increase the general driveability.

You will never get blistering performance to set the road alight, but if that is what you wanted, a diesel landrover int the way to go.

good luck.

Had my 2006 TD4 Auto fitted with a PSI power box.
Does the same as a remap.
It depends how you use it, if you travel at similar speeds then the greater power means you are accelerating for a shorter time, thus saving fuel in the long run.
Use all the performance all the time and it will use more fuel, and lose your licence very soon.
Before change 27MPG after change 30 MPG, not massive, but noticable.
Towing it really makes a difference, before change 21MPG, after 27MPG.
The PSI box has the advantage that you can remove it when your vehicle goes in for a service - so no warranty haggles.
