To Arnott or not to Arnott.

Evening folks.

Was looking at the bags today, and although not gone or leaking, I want to change them soon. Read and re read Keith's how to and sure I can do it.

Main question/s are:

Dunlops or Arnott?
Gen 2 or gen 3?
Been reading some other posts about fitting the gen 3's and finding out about the shockers and longer rods for the rear height sensors, and how it should improve the handling round town and motorway. But are they actually worth spending the extra?

Don't plan on doing the job for a few weeks, just started back on the job ladder, so need money elsewhere at mo.

Thoughts, comments and **** taking widely accepted.

Dunlops are grand...

Arnot Gen 2's are a good upgrade for not a lot of money more than Dunnies...plus Lifetime guarantee and a slightly better ride...

Gen3's not worth the cash unless you do serious off roading and will be using the full articulation with extended shocks...

Won't be doing too much serious off roading. Maybe a bit of green laning.

I know it needs shocks, so thought of doing it all at the same time.

Who's selling the gen 2's?

No Idea actually....just goooooooooogled hard to spot, one place I found said they were out of stock

Had the same thing on the phone. Could find them at arnott's page but expensive to ship over. But they do sell them as a kit of 4.

according to their website arnotts lifetime warranty on air springs applies to US customers. international orders get 2 years only.

Wasn't it P38 Spares who were doing the Gen2s? I think that's where I got mine but that was a couple of years ago.

As for fitting them, especially the rears, just make double sure that the car is securely supported as you might have to use a bit of brute force to snap rusty pins off or pry a reluctant top cap out of it's housing.

Dunlops are fine, no wallowing, no roll. That is down to shocks anyway, nothing to do with springing.

I have Gen II's, as other have said Gen III's are a waste of money unless you are into serious off roading. The lifetime warranty works, I had one fail with a very minor leak around the crimped end and it was replaced FOC apart from postage costs. I got mine off Ebay/P38 spares and at the time they were about £30 more then a set of Dunlops.
IMO the ride is more supple, but that could be because the old bags were so hard and perished.
I have not looked at the Arnott site recently to see if the warranty terms have changed.

I've put new dunlops on mine £56 each they last for at least 5 years that's good enough for me

Like I said, doing the shockers at the same time. N/S/F is leaking a bit now so I'll do all 4 of each. Not going overboard with the shockers, and not having ****part either.

Don't mind spending a bit more on the bags. Their marketing says it's a firmer ride at standard and highway mode, softer at wading mode. But we all know about sales talk.

well, just been looking at prices.

P38 spares are doing the Gen IIs for £189 a pair, front and rears (£378)

Island are doing the Dunlops for £224.99

suppose £30 a corner for Terrafirma shocks aint too bad either

arnot 2 is what I put on mine. great quality.
Got them from p38spares. I rang and got a better price over the phone.

I think they now come with a two yr warrentee..

I put Gen IIs on mine, with terrafirms shocks on the front. No issues with the ride, but equally, nothing that far beyond the previous dunlops.

Get yourself a fitting kit at the same time (only a few quid from Island) - that way you don't need to worry about getting a bit physical with the fixing pins if they're rusted in.

Last time I checked on their website the Lifetime guarantee was only in the USA and not overseas.

Some parts sold to United States customers have a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Others, including compressors, have a one-year warranty. International orders come with a two-year warranty on shocks and struts and a one-year warranty on compressors.

Don't say that unless you've try some. Those are better on road and off road...

They improve the ride of the P38 and increases the capability to drive and follow modern cars even on quick roads.

The Dunlop ones do the job, why waste money?
