Tip : Cheap way to refurb your headlights

Thought I would share this tip, not sure if its widely known but hey it worked for me and the results are great.

As you can see in the photos my headlight were dirty / milky / scratched on the tops on both sides and no amount of washing would shift it.

I took my wife's advice and used some Jiff on them and washed them afterwards with some window cleaner.

What a transformation, the drivers side had a weird brown residue on it, as you can see on the rag, while the passenger side was similar it has some marks as well.

The driver's side looks like new and the passenger side is much improved, they are plastic so I have not gone mad with it as Jiff is abrasive after all.

Mine are a bit murky too so will try this.

I did try toothpaste once but it made very little improvement.

think there a special cutting polish u can get ??

I am not convinced that my dirt issues are external. I suspect it is internal.

Yes but those kits are nearly £20 and you have to use an electric drill.

I'll stick with 1p of Jiff and some elbow grease

Sorry mate to be honest I didn't look at the price , blimey , would also stick with the jiff at those prices , lol

although .. thought it were on the inside of the lens ..

I did use tube of toothpaste. 99p from the Pound Shop. It has to be the white fluoride type. Worked great.

I shall have another go with my 'Ciff' tomorrow.

It has not been called 'Jiff' for some time now.

i used 2000,3000,5000,8000 wet'n'dry

Toothpaste made a big difference to our xtrail and it's not really worth the money, risk or effort using the sandpaper or kit which I've heard would get them nearly like new.

I use this stuff. It does need a power drill but the headlights look new again.

I make 4 grades of grit + polish .. um .. it's .. oh dear, I might have got the maths wrong, but I think that comes to more than one step

Autosol is also good at polishing them up.

The bonnet on my Hippo had paint overspray on it.
I was using a clay bar to get it off and decided to have a go at the cloudy headlights while I was at it.
Did a great job!

i used toothpaste worked well for me

I used Scratch Remover which I bought from Poundland for well, a pound. Useless for paint scratches but superb for restoring the headlamp lenses. Mine now sparkle like new.

What section / area is the scratch remover in?

I will give that a go.
