Hi guys just new to forums name os steve from livingston in scotland. Was really looking for some advice. I have a freelander 2 2009 model done 90k miles and would i have to get timing belt changed as the car is 10 year old or could i run it closer to 150k miles? Stuck in a dilemma as been quoted 650 for a new one to be replaced. Any advice is appreciated

It is due on its 10 year service along with a host of other things hence the £650. If its the full 10 year service it sounds reasonable to me.

Oh sorry you are right its 150k just looked at the check sheet. Had mine changed at 100k along with water pump, coolant and all the oils and was over £1000 but I might as well have the peace of mind as my car had a poor service history when I bought it.

Why are the quotes so high for a timing belt? It's just 2-3 hours work. It's not a particularly difficult job, but a few items need to be removed to access it. The belt kit isn't even that expensive. A Dayco OEM kit was under £120, when I last checked.

I think its just a timing belt change i have had a service a couple weeks ago oils etc all changed its not being done by a land rover garage i am guessing it would have been a lot more. I plan on keeping it for a couple more years so thought i would bite the bullet and get it changed incase the worse happens.

Yea think the kit was going 2 be 190
That must be for one in an LR box, as an OE is under £120, I just checked.

£460 labour with the VAT is a good profit. I should have worked on LRs rather than Citroens, before I stopped working on cars full time.

The 150k miles or 10 year service is a B service + eggstra's. Eggspensive due to the additional items on it like timing belt and changing loads of fluids: coolant, gearbox oil, power steering fluid, transfer box oil, rear diff oil and haldex oil. The haldex really should be taken apart to change the filter anorl as well as to give it a good clean.

Remember it is 150,000 miles or 10yrs which ever comes first so yes it is due by time but not by mileage, when I bought mine I was not sure if the belt had been changed so changed it, used gates kit £160 there about
