Disco 1 Timing Belt

Hi,
I'm sure that my Disco is well overdue for a new timing belt, but I've found online spares supplier's listing sooo complicated with dozens of different makes; kits; and prices!!

Obviously, with an item so vital to engine health, only bits form an OEM or similar quality will do......

My question(s) are:
Where do I buy an original Land Rover part(s)?
and, What does a kit contain? I understand from sites I've visited that there is a timing belt dedicated tensioner and idler?

Thanks in advance!

Hi George

If I was you I would delete the phone number in your post. I personally used LR direct, they give you a list of suppliers to choose from. If you have the part number for the kit you want then use their website if not you can try to use the part finding pages or give them a call.

Cheers

Any of the suppliers will do and I would recommend the Dayco belt kit sold by all the names under different brands ie britpart/beamach/lrdirect etc
The kits contain everything you need gaskets etc, if its a 200tdi you also need an extra idler pulley thats not in the kit.

Get a dayco belt. What kit you get depends on what you need. You'll need a timing cover gasket and a tensioner. You may need a crank pulley, depending whether yours has had the new modified one fitted in the past....and an idler pulley of your old one is noisy.

Thanks to all members so much for all the helpful advice!
As a retired, pessimistic, engineer, I reckoned that for such a critical bit of kit, this was one occasion when only a genuine LR part would do - about twice as much as some I saw from your suggestions, but hey-ho.....

Thanks again
