Disco 2 Thumping through airbox

Morning all,

My td5 has started to make a thumping noise through the airbox

Seems to be in time with firing
She's going very well apart from that

Anyone any ideas or pointers?

Head Gasket Failure blown through to one of the intake valves. My 300tdi did the same a few months ago.

Or valve clearances miles out, valve stuck open or shut.

As above - my 300tdi was doing this until I had the tappets done. Went away for a while, but back now when cold

Would agree with valve clearance issue.... have had similar problem, not on a Td5 but 200Tdi, they have valve stem caps that wear through, opening the rocker gap.... don't now if Td5 has the same arrangement ?

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty sure the tappets are hydraulic, so unless one has failed they should be OK

I'll do a compression test and hope it's not cylinder 5!
