OK, I've had the headlining out twice, have replaced the seals, have siliconed copiously, I've studied (and contributed to some of) the previous threads on here about this, I'm now totally fed up of these stupid sunroofs.

Does anyone do a kit to totally remove them, and replace them with a solid non-pervious alternative; sheet metal, plastic, felt, corrugated iron, slates? I don't care as long as the water stops cascading in.

Alternatively, has anyone taken them out and covered the holes with something else (chequer -plate?) on a diy basis? Any hints and or tips?

Thanks,
M

Not taken any right out but given up wasting time on one and just sealed up the whole area round it with silicone outdoor stuff and it hasn't leaked since, about a year I think

You're just being a misery and trying to take the fun out of driving your LR, What are you going to look forward to when you go round a bend if you seal them up?????

What sealant did you use? This brand Sikaflex appears to be the accepted stuff to seal disco sunroofs

Or this tape or a more permanent fix seems neat.

Fortunately I never use my sunroofs so no issues, didn't want them but it wasn't an option.

But don't forget, the leak is proof that the sun roof is a genuine crap LR part.
Also check your fuse box below steering column to make sure no water has found ingress and oxidised connections otherwise you might find the wipers coming on when you brake and other daft things.

Thanks guys. I've now got a roll of Flashband on order and a couple of tubes of tiger seal... Will report back in due course. If that doesn't work I'm going to go with chequer plate and rivets.

FWiW I borrowed an ultrasonic jobbie from work. Put the noisemaker in the car and then ran the wand around the edges of the sunroof. When it started making loads of noise I knew I'd found (one of) the leaks.

Apparently its how they check for watertightness in ship's hatches.
