For those old enough there is a movie song in there if you look for it. (anyone dare to say they are old enough to admit and recognise it it)
Beyond that, looking for advice as to how you keep the alternator in good nick when they get, muddy well, really muddy, and produce less than necessary voltage. I am told, with engine off, blast with water and then chuck half a can of WD40 down it to keep contacts operating. Would appreciate views. Mine is 1991 d90 200tdi. Ta Chaps/esses

hang on lads......I've got an idea.....

personally, I wouldn't squirt WD in an alternator. I's a pretty good water dispersant, but it's also an electrical insulator and leaves an oily / gummy residue.

I'd blast it with clean water and then the air gun to dry it out. Then maybe a little squirt of electrical contact cleaner.

if you washed it out with water, wouldn't the heat from the engine running just dry it out and as the starter turns over it should clean the face of the brushes(i thnk)
