Head gaskets seem to be a problem from what I read
any tips would be helpful

Hi Tubby, ignore all the warnings on this site at your peril, if you want to die young through stress and heartache buy a freelander, as for me i'm ready to drive mine into the nearest lake, and mines supposed to be a good one (with td4 engine).Best Rgds.

From recent irrating experience myself, tread very carefully and investment in an independent check is vital unless you are experienced mechanic. After buying a same aged Freelander as yourself, with full maindealer service history and having had new cylinder head a year ago after normal overheating problems, the head gasket on ours was on its way out again. Our dealer sorted it out at his expense but we lost the car for over a week. Strangely enough we still love it and somehow the idea of spending money on it in the future seems less painful than the thought of spending cash on our previously perfectly reliable and much maligned Mondeo?

Hi

I'm on my fourth Freelander, I would only buy a Diesel, I've had two L series which I had chipped. Now I have two Td4's, one auto and one manual. I must be lucky they have all been very good!!! Just the odd fault, mainly caused by the Dealer.
