West Yorkshire police have told us the latest trick from our thieving friends is to scout round places like Meadowhall, Trafford, White Rose, fairs, farm sales etc and attach a tracker of their own. This quite good when they are stealing to order. So advice is to check your Landy/desirable car when you return home from places like that. Or, I suppose as often as you can. It takes a moment with the powerful magnetic ones as they are walking past to track you to where you live.

Vigilance guys!

linky??? Cause I've just googled for thieves use trackers to steal cars. and also "west Yorkshire police warning" and nothing even remotely similar comes up?????

I didnt say i got it from the interweb, I got it from a West Yorkshire Policeman. Who co-incidentally we saw this morning when he held a meeting for all Landy Defender owners in our area. Along with two other crime prevention officers, a team of traffic cops and specials who looked after everyone's Landys (what a sight that was, all shiny and sparkly lol) in the car park while the meeting was taking place.

Got to give it to them they are doing what they can and budget allows to try and 'prevent' this crime and also to try and get a conviction when they have been caught. Starting with giving out a pack containing fifty quids worth of DNA marker glue to use, 10% off vouchers for friends or reletives for steering locks and few steering locks at heavily discounted price on the day.

They are doing 'something' and getting word out on MO which I think deserves a mention.

That's good to read. Good on them.

The theft element of Defender ownership is becoming oppressive. I increasingly find myself thinking about selling up.

So far, I've been lucky. But it can only be a question of time.
