Unfortunately and most regrettably my time as a range rover owner is coming to an end (for now)

It's gone wrong again, coolant issue once again

So in my 2 years of ownership I have;
Replaced flan air strut = £400ish done myself
New rad
New thermostat
2 water pumps (1was fault and lasted 4 days) = £1000ish done by an indie
New pcv and hoses = £100ish done myself
New steering rack = £1000ish done by an indie
New fuel pump = £400 done by myself
Auxiliary water pump = £100ish done myself
Disks and pads = £300ish done myself
Tyres = £1000 fitted
Gearbox service = £250ish done myself
New front bumper = £100
New side steps = £200
Front wheel bearing = £200ish done by indie
Fuel filter = £30ish
Heated seat repair
Integrated Bluetooth upgrade =£250 done by me
New rack ends and something else I can't remember = £300 done by indie
new dirvers door lock mechanism = £80 fitted by myself
central locking/ electric window fault = just time spent tracing broken connector and repairing
Missfire = time spent finding dodgy lpg connection and repairing
new headlight glass after one smashed = £100 done by myself
New battery £120
Plus general servicing costs

And the recovery from myhouse to the garage on Thursday cost me £80
Monday il find out the latest damage :(

So due to the wife starting her own business, the addition of the sprog (who will be one on Tuesday) we're about to start building our own house, plus the costs of the disco breaking too it's getting harder to constantly find the money / time to fix it.

The wife needs a car for her business an I work away a lot. So frequently leaves her stranded for weeks with a non running car, and I'm not about to sort it. Meaning we have to rely on family and friends.

So regrettably it's being replaced with something more reliable for now at least.

Thanks to everyone who has assisted with our issues in the past especially Ant! What a ledgend and top bloke!

So this is where it bow out of rangie ownership
Still got my disco tho so I'm not leaving completely :)

Miles though?..........if combined with age....you get those big bills as things just give up

I have an older Maserati supercar, when something goes wrong you got to stump up, but not as often as RRs!!!!!!

i know and i fully appreciate its an age / milage related issue, things do wear out.

But it doesn't stop it getting expensive and utterly frustrating, if i had the money / time, i would carry on maintaining it, its more the fact that it leaves the missis in the ****e rather than me.
Iv got a discovery and 4 vans so im fine for transport.
its my pride and joy and the love of my life, but its also killing me

Understand, just not a viable vehicle at this moment in your life.

We always advise buyers of Maseratis to get an indie inspection with a diagnostic readout to see whats been happening, do people advise that with Range Rovers? Plus to keep a warchest handy of £1-2K per annum over ordinary running costs, its a supercar with supercar costs, that never changes!

Sorry to hear of your considerable bad luck with your rangie and hope things pan out in the future.

Of the 1,000's you see on the roads 2002 to 2006 surely can't be all bad ? was considering getting a 2005 model myself but.............. not so sure :scratching_chin:

Hey Deasy, Sorry to hear that your and you L322 will be parting ways....and you have put so much effort and hard work into it too.

Still sounds like you have your hands full with other things currently what with the new arrival, the house and etc.

I do hope another RR will don the drive in the future and don't forget us over here while your in the Disco section....you'll always be welcomed with a **** take and now you are a Disco Kid, we'll make sure the dance floor is cleared for you :D:D:D

Don't forget to continue to share your knowledge and experiacne on here and help others as this is what the forum is all about - if people only come on here with problems or question, and no one to answer them, it makes it pretty useless...

Don't shed a tear people - the Range Rover bug runs deep....the Big D will be back when it is right for him to do so...

Big Grins T,
Ant.

...ok....so in what way did Ford do things better, interested in full story Datatek

Well, in my expereience, BMW's are over rated, poorly made and over priced, just like LR products of the BMW era. Ford by all accounts introduced better quality controls, TATA seem to be taking it a stage further with some models way up in the reliability charts recently.:)

The L322 is basically an X5, E39 5'er and an E38 7'er cobbled together by Land Rover in a Range Rover shell...

It was always a bit of a mash up, and LR didn't really understand the complexities of it ..... couple that with the fact that it was designed under BMW but when it was launched in 2002 Land Rover was actually owned by Ford and so BMW only gave to Ford details of the L322 components and not much of how it is all screwed together...this lead to some interesting 'ad hoc' wiring issues and software issues... BMW wanted to keep how there 'Magic' Ultimate Driving Machines worked to themselves...

the 2005 facelift model was designed and developed by Ford FOR the Range Rover so when the sale to Tata was carried out in 2008, the Range Rover and its associated systems and gubbins was purely Range Rover and as such the sale included all the design and specifics....the only true FORD product were the engines...which are Jaguar derived.

Designed by AJ engineering and made on the same line as the Ford and Jaguar lumps.

So, how much better are post 2005 L322s, ongoing improvements since especially after TATA bought them?....anecdotal or measured by some authority?

P
Not much difference in the L322 methinks, but the newer models developed by TATA with the notable exception of the Ejoke seem to be improving, I think it was the latest Disco that came near the top of the chart in the JD power survey.
