Land Rover and Suzuki both missed a trick here

Yep, precisely

The Jimny shows that a traditional 4x4 with live axles and a ladder chassis can be made to drive pretty much like a car. So it's a viable alternative to a generic hatchback such as a VW Polo.
With no compromise made to it's off-road ability.
l am sure Land Rover could have done better still.

Don't know about the old version of the Jimny, but our new one is better on the road than some of the new cars we tried, so long as you don't try to drive it like a GTi.

I like the Suzuki, apparently a very long waiting list for them. Interestingly it's more or less the size of an early Series, so in spirit closer to the original LR than anything else around...

lt feels like a Defender to drive, obviously not a Defender but the same kind of view over the bonnet and a similar gear shift and quite basic interior
Similar feel to the performance as well, although on paper it's faster.
Shame you can't get it in Keswick Green or Cairns Blue
