The Earliest of TD5s

Afternoon all,

I’m going to look at a 1998 90 this weekend which is fitted with a TD5 which the owner says is the original engine.

Reading online I’ve found that the TD5 became the standard engine in December 1998 however this 90 was registered in August 1998.

When were the td5s first installed from factory?

I recently read on another forum that Land Rover did indeed produce early pre proTd5s.

Pre production[test vehicles]that were near standard were often later sold. Back in the day even modified trucks were sold on, there is a 2a with a independent front suspension.
After this amount of time problems with the early Td5 should have been sorted.
