I have a 2003 Freelander kalahari with TC and HDC warning lights coming on and off intermittently. The break lights are also only working intermittently.

I have found loads of post on this forum (which is great I might add) relating to this problem with the TC and HDC lights but every thread has replies of "please search for 3 amigos, there are plenty of posts"...

Can anyone point me in the right direction of a definitive guide or thread about this problem on the forum?

I'm guessing it might be Brake Light switch problems but I'm looking for pictures or possibly a video on how to replace it..

Can anyone help?

the brake light switch is up above the pedal, the top of the pedal contacts the plunger, it has one electrical connection and twists out bayonet style.
it helps to wedge the pedal down with a length of something between seat and pedal, be sure it can't slip though.

the switch on the left is the original and the one on the right with the short loom is the part that supersedes it..

This very common problem area is well overdue a 'sticky' definitive guide to diagnosis and rectification.

Yeah I was hoping for some picutures or some sort of video guide. It would have been so much more help.

Thanks for the post matey. I'm a little confused after reading thread with the pictures...Can you tell me will any of the following Brake Light switches are of any use?

FFS it's a piece of **** to do if you can be arsed to get you head under the dash and take a look.
Perhaps you could also take the time to film yourself doing it and post it on here for other numbskulls who want to know how to disconnect a multi-plug and twist a ****in switch.
I posted a picture of the switch so you know what to look for, if that's not enough for you take it to the ****ing dealer. :puke2::mooning:

ooooooohhhh:5brant::5brant::5brant:

I found the switch, disconnected it. And reconnected it. It seems to have fixed the brake lights which were only working intermittently (for now) but the TC and HDC lights came on again straight away, when I broke. They seem to go on when I brake lightly and go off when I break lightly. It's rather strange... Boohoo

I'll order a new brake light switch to see if that sorts it out.

Oh and I took really poor quality pictures which I'll upload later (when I figure out how to) simply to keep stroppy pants Chaser, who's clearly on his period, happy. :)

 What no 'how to guide with video'?? Some people who look in here for help will expect nothing less......:hysterically_laughi

Ok I'll try put one together if it helps other people. It would save members getting unnecessarily sworn at by snappy little school girls...

Now were is that ****er smillie for Mr Man Period??

pmsing of the male gender.
Males seem to have a "period" as like females.
None of the bleeding symptoms but the mood swings and high level of irritation.

man period symptoms
-Yelling,shouting constantly
-storming off in a mad /anger manner
-making others feel guilty
-seeming to think that their always right
-severe mood swings
-irritated more than usual
-non willing to admit they did something wrong
-laziness
-more than the usual food consumption
-more emotional intake

Suffering from any of the above Chaser sweetie??

Nope, the only thing that ****ed me off is your ungrateful attitude to the first and only relevant reply to your request for help. Would it not make you wonder why you bother to help?

If you re-read the threads Chaser you'll find:

I thanked you for your reply and asked for a little bit more info as the picture you uploaded looked to me like two completely different sized parts. Can't see how you think that was ungrateful but hey ho.

Ha ha, of course I read on but you'd already shot yourself in the foot with your earlier comment.

My earlier comment was a reply to Dann who was in agreement that a step by step guide could benefit members. No point talking about it anymore. I appreciate you taking the time to reply and post a picture.

Apologies if you felt I didn't appreciate, it.

Here's my definitive guide, snaffled from elsewhere as my camera is gash:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whilst driving to work on Friday, I noticed the Hill Descent Control & Traction Control warning lamps illuminated:

Also realised later in the evening that my brake lights weren’t working either! Much reading on Landyzone lead me to believe that the brake light switched was stuffed.

After googling Landrover Freelander parts I found I needed the following : -

Switch (XKB500120):

Convertor Harness (YMQ503280):

Here’s a picture of the switch with the convertor loom (Harness) attached:

Procedure to replace:

The old switch can be seen to the left of the throttle pot in this picture.

It was then just a matter of removing the old switch by twisting it and then withdrawing it from its retaining bracket.

The new switch was then installed by inserting it into the retaining bracket and twisting. The loom was connected up and the ignition turned on. The HDC & TC lights then extinguished after the bulb check.

OLD SWITCH
:

NEW SWITCH :

Compare the new switch to the old one! They are substantially different in shape and size.

The new switch also seems more robust than the older one!
