Hi all, thanks for all the replies telling me that it was the spigot
bush that had gone on the clutch; spot on. Now I need to know how to
remove the centre trims (side of driver) so I can root the coax for my
amateur radio antennas.

I did discover (for all those amateurs who want to know) that it is ok
to transmit 100 watts of power up to the antenna without it intreferring
in any way with the ECU, providing that it is sheilded correctly so no
stray RF goes whizzing around.Sourced from Lode Lane technical dept.

Hi to all and Dave, I'm a little confused over the term spigot bush in
this clutch noise problem. I think we have the exact same
symptoms/problems on an early 2002 TD5 CSW and have so far changed the
clutch bearing twice. Is this the spigot bush on the gearbox shaft or
is it the bush on the crankshaft side. Thanks for any info. What is
involved in replacing it? I also see that it is recommended to change
the clutch release arm, but that a new revised part is now available.
Does anybody know from what year/serial the new release arm was fitted,
or should I replace this also.
Thanks for any info

best regards

It's the latter - it's on the end of the crankshaft and goes into the
flywheel. To replace it means taking out either the engine or gearbox.

Td5's have gone back to the Series III clutch release arm (it's
even the same part number!) which is indestructable. The dodgy ones
are on 2.5/200/300Tdi's.

Well you beat me to it, to answer the question, but to reiterate as
above; On my 110 CSW the clutch did exactly the same and folded at the
fork. A weak point as is described. What amazes me is why when Lode Lane
know that they have these problems , WHY DONT THEY CURE EM?????
