Hi Guys,
Just wanting a heads up on what might be going on here so we can deal with it before it turns into a big issue.

So what happened it that on the way back from Landyzone - they temp gauge was fluctuating slightly - but we are talking only a couple of times during the whole trip.

Till we came off the motorway and had to slow down for the bike race - the temp gauge dropped to blue - and came slowly back up - but not to the normal operating range it shows.

Checked coolant was a bit low - so topped it up. but not much was required.
Checked for bubbles in the header tank - nothing
Checked for coolant in the oil - nothing

Ran it again this morning to work
Temp goes up as normal
heater blowing hot air
Stopped for a roundabout
Temp dropped down towards blue - heater still blowing hot
Set off - temp still low - but the whole time heater blows hot

Any ideas what may be going on?

could be the waterpump on its way

we had that on a freelander, basically it would boil the water which would then drop the temp gauge (because it cant read the temp of a gas) then the steam would push its way out, another glug of water would come in... then boil and repeat.

just my opinion anyhoos

i would get it up to temp and then feel the rad. it should be a consistent temperature all over. If not, the coolant isnt circulating.

Note this could also be a thermostat issue.

or yer gauge is knackered ;)

what engine is in it?

td5 :)

i did have (and still do) a similar situation on our rexton. Temp gauge sends the ecu into a hissy fit and all caused by the dodgy coolant sensor.

next time go and do a couple of checks.

mud in rad.

feel all over the rad for cold spots.

make sure the top and bottom rad hoses are hot

check blower heat (as you've done)

i'm not sure on the td5, but it could just be a leccy gauge problem if you've been mud wallowing.

check all earths (use a jump lead from bet neg to block) check earth point next to ecu. and the gauges. (is it still to the right of the brake servo on the engine side of the bulkhead)

oh and the sender wire for chaffing and the term.

keep an eye on coolant level and any smells from the blower.. sweet/curryish?
