hi all, thought I would write a post about one of the probs I have at the moment with our freelander td4 2001
to see if anyone else has had or is having the same issues before I have to take it in to see the money removers (mechanics)...it all started about 2 months ago, came out after using the car to get a pizza.wouldnt start.turned over fine but no go.tried to plip it about five times still no joy.disconnected the battery, let it sit then reconnected it still no joy.called out aa ate the pizza while waiting tried again started perfect and drove home...happened again few days later it eventually started by waiting...fuel pump stopped working low pressure one by the filter, got a secondhand one, still had same problems, tested fuel delivery loads at the high pressure pump with ign on.plugged car into diagnostic via obd2.no faults coming up.can hear tank pump running can hear low pressure pump running still wont start unless you leave it for a few hours then its fine, plenty o power take it for a rumn of 10 miles or more back to not starting.checked injector plugs have got a few pulses on the test lamp then nothing while still being turned over.has anybody got the same problem or knows how to fix it cos I think this is going to be expensive please forgive me for this being my first proper post im getting more desperate than ever, thanks

If this problem is only there when it's hot? Then that points to the cam position sensor. These often fail when they get hot, but are only used when starting. So if it fails when the engine is running, the engine continues to run just fine.

A generic OBD2 reader won't a 2001 TD4. You need an LR specific reader for it. ;)

it happened to me many years ago on a beach with the tide coming in , I was rescued by another landrover owner who towed me off the beach then after a while it started up and then it happened again , I called the aa out as I was near a phone then and he came out and said it was the cam sensor , I now carry a spare one as the fear of loosing my car to the sea was over the top I would have soon have done what the tratters say which includes a can and some liquid and a match.

Cam sensor gets my vote - I had similar. This fault will show up on a LR specific code reader - e.g. Carsoft. Or take vehicle to LR dealer or a mate for a code read.
