Hi all,
I'm normally to be found over in the range rover section but I'm here on behalf of a family member
Hope someone on here can confirm something for me.

He has a disco 4 with the tdv6 engine and it snapped a crank for the second time in as many years.
I think the first time, a secondhand engine was fitted (at great cost) and he thought "it can't possibly happen twice"
Well of course it has and he just wants to get it running again.

Now, I have a battered s type jaguar that I'm thinking of selling anyway but it runs well. My thinking is that I could drive this down to Czech Republic (where the family member is) and swap the engine into the disco and sell the rest of the jag off for parts.

Main question is, does the jag engine fit and is there anything that I need to

Ive only read of the 2.7 jag engine being used as a swap candidate, Did later jags use the 3.0? if so theres a good chance it going to fir, Iirc you swap all the ancillieries over to the jag lump and drop it in.
Are you sure theres not some sort of underlying issue with the car to make the second engine fail?

Hi mate

Likewise never heard of a 3.0 litre SDV6 being fitted to the S type Jags , also see the OPs first engine was second hand

Think it was 2009 when discoveries went over to the 3.0

However , wonder if the XF jag models used the same engines the D4s had, but swapping all the ancillaries over ???

Know the Citroen / Peugeot isn’t any good, different bolt pattern I believe on the bell housing

Jag is a 2005 2.7.
The disco, apparently, was supposed to be a 2.7 but was at some stage changed for a 3.0 as it was supposed to be more reliable.
This suggests to me that this had happened before his ownership
The disco is a 2010 auto.
Please forgive me for being a bit vague.
The owner only speaks Czech so this is being translated via my wife who is completely none technical and some things simply don't translate literally.

My understanding is that the only difference between the two blocks is the stroke of the crank. What I can't seem to find out is whether the bellhousing and engine mounts will be the same

Basically, he just wants to get it running to sell it.
There are ****part cranks available for the 2.7 but he doesn't yet know how much damage had been done to the block which is why we are looking at the jag option.

(bear in mind, my p38 is needing to come home from Czech so I could drive the jag down and drive back in the range rover so it kinda works out if it will fit)

The BritPart cranks are supposed to be of good quality and I would be inclined to make some enquiries with them about the warranty on them as I think they still do a 36 month warranty?

I am sure I have read on the D3/4 forum where people have fitted the 3.0 engine in place of the 2.7 so if it works one way?

My feeling is 98% that it will work, however, I'm not prepared to risk it unless someone can categorically tell me it will fit.
Which D3/D4 fórum are you referring to? If you can let me know, I'll go there and ask.
Thanks for the replies so far.

All evidence suggests the Jag 2.7 will fit the 3.0 D4 engine bay just fine. I don't know how long the 2.7 will last, when it's asked to make as much power is 3.0, but it should work ok.

Google Disco 3 forum its well known

OK, update time.
The fool has decided (despite my protestations) to keep it.
Last time it went, it spun the shells but didn't break the crank.
His so called mechanic chucked a new set of shells in and charged him the equivalent of around 3k gbp!! 3 months later it's spun them again but this time the crank snapped and trashed the block.

So, if anyone can recommend someone who can supply a 3.0 tdv6 short motor for 5k or less then I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice. I've kinda backed away from it now. My suggestion was to drop a 2.7 lump in it and get rid but he's determined to keep it.
He claims to have found someone offering reconditioned lumps in Slovakia and seems to be going down that road so I'm leaving him to it. Who knows what he'll end up with!
