TD5 pas fluid

What's the latest opinions on what to use? On my Disco 2 it's the steering box has leaked from day one almost. 2 recon box's later it still leaks. I've always ran it on ATF, so is this the problem?
I'm fitting a replacement box soon and I'm thinking of draining the system and filling with the proper stuff. Any opinions ?

I was told by Land Rover that ATF could be used for topping-up in an emergency, but there was a risk that ATF could attack the seals in the Disco 2 steering box. How true that is I don't know, but I don't think I'll risk it so I've always used the recommended fluid to top up. STC50519, Cold Climate Fluid.

The ATF attacking the seals was my thoughts too. Is the proper stuff only available from LR though, or is there an equal but less expensive alternative.?

You can get it on the bay. Search using the part number. It's not as expensive as from the main stealer but it's still a bit on the ouch side.

I'm looking at this stuff. I found some favourable reviews on it and at nearly half the price would give it a go. I need 4ltrs of the stuff to refill the system so it would be £££'s to do it with STC505019

What are you filling if it takes 4 litres?
A Disco 2 PAS requires about 1 litre to fill the reservoir on a non ACE car and about 500 milli-litre on an ACE fitted car. That's not counting what's needed to fill the pump and the box and also the pipes, so you're looking at 3 1/4 litres on the floor then?

I've been running mine on ATF which I want to drain completely. Book quotes 3.4Ltrs for complete system.
