hi all of a sudden my td5 is starting to lack power. under acceleration it feels lumpy almost like its only firing on 4 cylynders. on tickover the revs stay pretty much steady but sounds slightly lumpy. i have done all the usual checks and all seems to be ok. it still drives fine apart from that. changing gear smoothly, kick down etc. just under powered and slightly lumpy. any ideas?? she is a 1999 td5 auto es with 150k on the clock and full service history. thanks guys
 
MAF sensor? Try disconnecting it and see if there is any difference. it's the electrical connector on the fat pipe from the air box to the manifold.

Mine went and I bought a new one (genuines best apparently on this one). Put it on and still thought I had an issue as it was still jerky and weak. Then plugged it in to fault reader and found the new ones was also knackered! They are very fragile but once working you'll feel a difference.

You could try a new fuel filter as that'll never be a waste of money. After that the only thing is to plug it in again to a fault reader.

If I had my time again with a TD5 I would get one staright away. it will save you so much hassle and stress in the long run and make all jobs suitable for the home mechanic. The reader at least tells you whats hot and whats not so takes any guessing out. Guessing is a waste of time if "the computer says no".

Think of it like trying to understand a mandarin speaking chap who is trying to tell you that you've won the lottery. Makes no sense untill someone interprets it and wow you are just so happy!!!! Not sure whats best but get one.

thanks Pindie. I will check the loom. already checked all the other sensors. no difference with MAF disconected. I recently serviced it and changed the fuel filter. I hope its just the loom so i can sort that myself. Does anyone know where to get a inexpensive fault reader?
 
You might put your location in your profile, there might be a member close to you with a code reader. AFIK there are no inexpensive fault readers. There are few code readers for the TD5, ranging from £350 - £7000+ (second-hand Nanocom - Testbook)
And when you've got it sorted, give Mike @ Dynnachip a bell, you'll be amazed @ the transformation & I only had the standard re-map!

Is the pope Catholic?, yes Dyna Chip magic does make a huge difference, loads more grunt, instant power away from lights (if your that way inclined) and better mpg if driven respecfully, superb if you tow as well.

Just watch it doesnt warp your manifold as mine did after a few months, love it though!
 
The warping will happen at some stage if chipped. Not a biggie though as you just get it skimmed and put back on. It can't warp twice.

Do not be fooled into getting a new manifold though. It'll warp the same!

BG Landrover in Monmouth do an exchange. Mine was just over 135 quid and a case of warped in and skimmed back.
 
Autologics tune makes your heart beat fast! Delivered one I tuned yesterday, wahay!
Just get it plugged in and find out for sure, buy almost certainly the injector harness. Could be fuel pump, change your filter, if it won't bleed up (5 presses of acc pedal), pumps knackd.

just update those who care. i have fitted a new injector loom today. replacing the rocker cover gasket along the way. And i am pleased to say the disco is running like a dream again. so thanks to everyone for the advice. shows this site works. now to blank the EGR and hopefully improve the economy as she is only doing about 15mpg. think i may get a V8 if this carries on lol. take care and have fun neil
