Hey everyone ive been puzzeled for some time why when i put about 40ltrs of diesel in my td5 discovery i get only 130miles what do you think could be wrong? I preaty sure the airflow sensor is buggered. But would this cause it to be this bad? Any ideas what else could be at fault. I have a K&N airfilter fitted and it is clean. Thanks Dan.

40 litres is 9 gallons more or less.

so your TD5 Disco is doing 130 / 9 miles per gallon = 14½ mils per gallon!

Mine is always well over TWICE that much.

If you think the airfkow sensorm is buggered, change it. But what makes you think it's buggered?

Check (with the engine running) for fuel leaks at the back as pipes rub through, and check that it isn't dumping diesel in the engine oil. They can do that too.

8.798766 to be precise but it's still ****e mileage and something is definitely wrong

Sure is.

Pull the dipstick out and see if the "oil" is about a foot over the high mark.

That would give you a clue where the fuel may be going.

The oil never seems high at all. never moves rearly. I took the airflow sensor off to clean it and broke the bit inside it! Ive cleaned the sensor in the inlet manifold aswell and no difference, Also I have fitted a new fuel pressure regulator. any other ideas Dan.

Are you really SURE it hasn't got a big leak? They are prone to it from the back of the head and the fuel pipes over the top of the tank at the back.

I would think that using that much fuel through the injectors would make for a really dirty exhaust. Does it run clean?

i doesnt smoke at all ive changed the fuel pressure regulator at the back of the head so all is good theirs been under their yesterday carnt see any diesel leaking so in very confused? Dan

it was an auto till the torque converter snapped so i put a manual in but yea it was these given results around town n that as an auto. but it seemed i only got about 350 ish miles on £100 on a motorway run! i havnt tried it as a manual yet because i cannot get the clutch to bleed! Dan

O.K my Td5 is auto and does no more than 16 mpg around town on a run i get just over 30 mpg. At first i thought there was something wrong with mine untill i went for a long run so i think yours is probebly about right.

Wow!

My TD5 Disco is a manual with blanked EGR.

I get 30+ mpg steady even with a bit of town stuff and a lot more on long runs.

Off road to chase sheep can change the situation quite a lot!

I have just blanked my egr off and fitted a stainless steal de-cat pipe and also a stainless steal mid through pipe doing away with the centre box seems to run better especialy in the low gears and it sounds brill. so i will check it again round town to see if its any better...Tony
