Disco 2 TD5 fuel strainer - how much???

Getting parts together to change FPR next week, but going rate for MAE100010 seems to be (drum roll) 60 to 70 squids

Thinking I'll just clean up and re-use the existing one, any reason that's a bad idea?

Yes I've been there, it is made from metal mesh so only needs washing in solvent blow it dry and re fit with a new o ring.
Take care when you take the regulator housing off at that point my strainer disappeared never to be seen again.

As it happens, I'm changing the inlet manifold gasket at the same time, so hoping it'll be somewhat less fiddly with the better access

Should be much easier, but I would still put an old washing up bowl or something under the engine, just in case, I took the regulator off and cleaned it down then went back to take out the strainer and it was gone forever, sounds crazy and I searched for hours but it was lost, it was certainly there because I saw it when I removed the regulator.
Oh how I laughed.

Have you checked the furthest possible place away from where you dropped it? Its usually there...

I checked all over the place becoming increasingly more angry and belligerent, but it did me no good hard to believe that it could disappear into a black hole but it did, I still wake up at night screaming, but nothing like I did when I started to look up the price of a new one.
I was very lucky actually a very kind LR owner had a spare one knocking around in his garage and sent it to me I am eternally grateful to him.
But take care don't fall into the same trap put something there to catch it and take it out carefully, it is only held in by the o ring and can go into free fall as soon as the pressure regulator is removed.

mine fell out but got trapped on the suspension arm the 1st time. the second was on the back of the starter motor. Oh the fun I had finding it

So why does it come out spontaneously? Does it flush out with little bit of fuel that's in the head?

yes. The back flow of fuel makes it come out

It is only held in by the o ring and the opening where it fits is sloping slightly towards the floor.

Thanks, will defo be using a bowl in that case
