Hi
Not my motor so may not have all the info to hand

TD5 LR won't start so checked fuel pump & it's working
Changed filters etc
Done fuel purge twice and have a fuel pressure gauge so I know I have fuel.
Still won't start but turns over fine.

Does any one know what the pressure should be at the rail?

Could the injector washers cause the non start?

Motor was running & started to show fuel starvation problems that's why we thought the pump.

Any hints/help greatfull

Hi, you named the topic fuel problem but it might be something else... screw in the gauge in the FPR instead of the FT sensor, it should be minimum 4 Bar there... though it can be a crank sensor or other management issue too, a diagnostic tool would be handy in this case...is it manual or auto?

Thanks.title is a bit vague ;)
I have 4 bar in the Fpr.
It's a manual.
Would a diagnostic tool pick up a faulty crank sensor?

What type of diagnostic tool is good for these.

Not up to speed on anything past 1990 too much electronics to fail & chase ;)

Yes, a dedicated diagnostic tool like nanocom or hawkeye or even a good multivehicle tool which has the Td5 listed would help, the symptom you described can be an ECU topside switch failure too, or who knows what else .... being manual try to bump start it without cranking to rule out a starter interference with the crank signal cos that's quite common also check the sensor plug and wiring's integrity, also if you cranked it much measure voltage on the battery while cranking cos if it drops belkow 10.5V this can be another reason, the Td5 needs strong battery to start

Thanks i will check this over the next few weeks. Not my motor & been sat on the ramp I need.
It was dragged round the field to bump start but unsure if the battery voltage was up.
Good pointers to start the search :)

injector washers can cause that allways worth changing as they will do at some time

take note the smoke coming out the chimney while trying to start ....does this engine try to start if spray is introduced into the air intake just to rule out timing or sticking lifters

depending where your reading fuel pressure but there is a screen inside the head if this is blocked you will still get good pressure at the regulator but not rail pressure

if this a fuel starvation and the engine has competly run out fuel your only priming the fuel gallerys your not priming the injectors some times a sniff of spray helps speed up the process

i also noticed you mentioned this engine turns over fine .........how fine faster than normal ? or does the engine sound like its got compression i only ask as i have experienced sticky lifters

More info of the motor
2002 early model TD5
The OBD port is not connected as these were not required until later in the year.
Unsure if this is correct ?

Did not have time fully to look as I was up to my arms in grass with farm machinery
Thanks

If there's an empty hole where the port should be search for it inside that compartment in that area cos they used to be pushed in and hanging there
