bit of an odd Q but would it be possible to put a discovery td5 engine in my 200tdi? really dont know how different the gearbox mountings and electrics etc are but know theres a td5 engine possibly going cheap near me.
cheers

anyone know of where i can find a wiring diagram for the td5? particularly one that doesnt involve spending money :D
cheers

think theres a wiring diagram for the td5 on the rave cd.
otherwise try my link in tother thread re the td5,s.
they might help you.

beware the ecu system for some model yrs is a nightmare. and they were/are programmed/programmable to fit one car only! LR say they are interchangable.
experienced fitters say bollocks.

Strange... most people want to do the engine conversion in the opposite direction after having electronic or mechanical problems with the TD5. I would not even attempt the conversion. Apart from the wiring looms and ECU, you will have to fit the TD5 fuel pump which costs an arm and a leg and doesn't last, and also remember the TD5 has completely different hydraulic engine mountings. It's not impossible, but if you want a TD5 it is easier to go buy one.

They are interchangable, all you have to do is program the injector grades and relearn the security code and it will work. I have an ecu in my toolbox that I use for testing and have fitted it to loads of different cars, works every time.

The only thing you can't do with the early ecu's is update the software, early ecu part number starts with MMB, the ecu's with the part number that starts with NNN ARE programmable.

MMB ecu will work with a very late disco or defender but the EGR won't work as its totally different to the early models.

i knew it wouldnt be simple, the engine is from an 02 disco with 40,000 miles on the clock i may not even buy engine but if its going cheap enough i wont be able to resist! will keep you updated!.
cheers

i would buy the td5 cheap and sell it on ebay for an extortionate amount they get a new/newish 200 tdi for less money.
spend the balance on beer.
