Hi all I've recently purchased a 1996 130 which has had a 2002 td5 dropped in a couple of years back by a previous owner. The engine is lovely with 80k on the clock runs and starts as she should.
The only issue I have is that I want to plug it in and see if there are any fault codes or issues that need dealing with. The problem I have is that I can't find any sign of the 16 pin diagnostic plug anywhere. I've pulled the dash to pieces followed the ecu loom but still no joy. The only spare plugs I can find are the ones in the pics below. Am I missing something is one of these the plug I have been looking for or does anyone else have any ideas where I should be looking thanks

If its a defender td5 loom, the plug is around a metre from the ecu, as it normally fixes into the middle seat base, yours maybe under the middle seat floor panel

It's a defender but I think the ecu at least came from a discovery as its marked on the ecu box. I've had the middle seat and floorpan up and chased the loom back but can't seem to find it anywhere these were the only spare plugs I could find and none of them appear to be the 16 pin diagnostic one I'm stuck

IMO there is no OBD socket there if the vehicle was a 300Tdi before cos the OBD port is not part of the Td5 main harness, on the D2 it's wired through a header joint which is not present on the Defender, eventually if they made a complete job you should find the port somewhere under the dash... if not you'll have to wire one yourself, not a killer, get a 16 pin plug like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal...ffType=OrderSubTotalOffer&_trksid=p5731.m3795 , connect +12V(5A fuse) to pin 16, earth to pins 4 and 5(take it from a dry place and tighten it well), splice into the pink wire from pin 18 at ECU black plug and connect it to the OBD port pin 7 that's all

Silly question,

But have you checked the wiring diagram and tried following a wire that should go to the OBD connection from a known source point?

Cheers

Yes I've done this with no joy just thought I must be missing something obvious but I don't seem to have the plug anywhere.

Thanks for the reply I think you must be right. I just had it in my head the the plug was part of the ecu loom but if it's not that would make sense that I haven't got one. The company that did the conversion for the previous owner were a reputable company by all accounts. The conversion is spot on and everything seems to have been done well just seems strange they didn't add a plug considering it doesn't seem that difficult to do. I think this will be a job for me over Xmas thanks for the helpful diagrams
