gday all just purchased a set of sealing washers for my td5 i have noticed one of the copper combustion washers is slightly larger an slightly thicker
the reason i ask is that the my local landrover shop advised me to stay away from ebay and combustion washers can vary in size but they have also gave me 2 different sizes ? is there a difference

Take them back and ask them to explain why they are different and get them to give you 5 the same size.

Simples init.

Cheers

thanks but you are missing the point i got told from them be aware from ebay as you may get the wrong size this comment was made when i was paying 27 .50 for 5 combustion washers and 5 orings from them as i mentioned i thats is steep
simple innit so do i install the smaller ones are larger ones ?

simple innit
so what is the correct size used on the td5s diameter and thickness

OH, sorry, as you did not post a question in the original post except to ask if there was a difference and I would have thought the difference was pretty obvious as it is a different size., I thought it was general advice you were after.

How would I know, as you do not say what size the washers are except large and small, maybe both are wrong...... again ask your supplier.
I will say 27.5 ozzie dollars sounds very cheap for genuine washers and o rings. More like £40 plus in the UK iirc.

Cheers

am i purchasing geniune though ? kind of makes you wonder where they are getting there supply from but then warn me of ebay

Again, how would I know, I do not have my mystic meg hat on:D, what does it say on the bag??. Mine came in Genuine LR bags.

Seems you like to edit your posts and an extra sentence or two.. after original posting.LOL

I have measured a couple of old used washers, the outside diameter is 17.6 / 17.7mm the thickness on the edge ( not the crush ring ) is 1.03mm

Cheers

thanks but just on the flip side my original and first post is un edited untouched my 2nd post was a reply to yours and yes i added in further information to a simple innit comment as i over looked this the first time i read it
measuring old crunched washers kinds of defeats the purpose right ... as i may as well measure my old washers compared to new ones i have.... as you never mentioned how long the old washers where used for nor the condition of them

the reason i i am putting this case together as the same shop have tryed playing games before ....so when i go back on monday i have to ask them also what is the correct size.... as i have 4 the same one different witch one is it? so do i fit the larger and thicker or smaller and thinner ?

i have just edited for spelling mistakes if this is ok

measure the originals, the ones just bigger and not largely bigger will be correct

Go to you’re local Land Rover and buy genuine, and after you have done that anneal the copper washers and fit them... job done!
Good luck ozzyboy and all the best

i thought i did purchase geniune as i used my local discovery automotive shop they specialise in landrover rangerover parts service and repairs
it could be a simple mistake on there behalf but i have a feeling they also get there parts from ebay

any ways i will see what they say on monday or tuesday

Then, as said in my first post, go and speak to your supplier ....

end of really....

Cheers
yes i will speak to them you just me worry about that end
as i would be just taking there word do i use the thin ones or thicker larger ones as both fit

maybe i need to be more clearer for you to understand my past with the LR dealer in question
first a few year ago i had a screaming fuel pump i purchased combustion washers from them they advised me that combustion washers dont make a fuel pump scream ?

further more they said good luck doing the job as a special tool to remove injectors LOL i geuss they wanted to do the job them self's.... nor would they lend the tool with a deposit its funny because yes those combustion washers stopped my fuel pump scream nor did i need a special tool to remove injectors

next time round while i was chasing a different fault i visited them i had to move the fuel pressure reg and purchased a gasket from them they advised me then to stay away from ebay fuel regulators as VW also run different preasures .... my ebay regulator seams to run good as at the time i was chasing fuel pressure issues

i purchased a harmonic balance from them also same again good luck doing the job comment as i would need a torque wrench up to 300 nm is that it LOL....... another case of them wanting to do the job

so here we are again as the guy mentioned about being carfull about purchasing combustion washers from the net as they vary in size
and then gives me two different sizes him self ?

also may i add this is not the first set of combustion washers i have changed on mine or many other makes and models to cone type and different types of material used ..but i do know if the wrong size combustion washer used will cause issiues in the near future regardless if they are annealed

anyways sorry to upset you i just thought a 2nd opining would be nice like doctors do when examining patients

i apologise about my dirty fingers and nails it comes with a trade of being a hair dresser

Did not upset me, but shirley if you are asking about a size of a part, then supplying measurements of said parts would be beneficial...............even a photo does not provide the that info.

Look on the bright side, if they had provided 5 washers that were the wrong size, you would have been none the wiser.....:rolleyes:

Cheers

yes your correct i would of been none of of the wiser unfortanattly i noticed where others wont
but again your missing the point as they warned me to stay away from ebay as the combustion washers may vary in size
now i am wondering if the orings they supplyed are metric or imperial
but who cares fit them and be done with it see it back again in a few months time

neily i cant edit as you may get upset
how many times members or people you may of known chased there tails in fault finding
and then blame a bad or poor install of combustion washers untill they get it right ?

A few, but as you know about it , you are not going to chase your tail are you....

I do not get upset about editing posts, but if you add info then do not expect that what you have added is read by those who have already read your post .

Simples init. But anyway soon be monday in OZ and you can take it up with the suppliers, which I think I did suggest to start with and as you could not be bothered to measure the parts anyway. Carry on and enjoy your Snday.

Cheers

Unfortunately the market is full of crap these days, i've seen wrong size o-rings in LR genuine bag twice untill now, wrong size genuine drive shaft seals, etc. IMO better measure with calipers the injector nozzle's OD and the hole's ID at the bottom where the washer goes and fit the washers which have the best dimensions for the purpose

gday

that was my plan to measure them unfortunately i cant measure right now i dont have a spare set of calipers at home mine are at work in my tool box

bit of an update
i spoke to the supplier and he mentioned about different brands
he said the thickness and size diameter doesn't mean any thing

the thicker combustion washer was just slightly off by a smidge even the vernias didnt read none digital type ... it seam to be a bit more looser fit on an old injector he had laying around not as snug but may still of worked ???? ....he put this down to a different brand as i questioned also about them warning me on ebay

neily i think we got off on the wrong foot
maybe i was focused on your simple comment remark from my first un edited post
however the edit button is there to be used.. maybe i read back and it didnt sound right .... and just out of bad timing you where online still typing no big deal ...please explain the changes if your concerned

anyways a simple reason why i could not measure over the weekend another pis poor comment on your behalf (cant be bothered comment ) .......is that most if not all my tools are at work and work isnt exactly a 5 min drive either ... nor i wanted to disable the engine doing the job twice .... so yes fitting all 5 washers the same makes me sleep at night at least i can rule out the issiue i am chasing allong with another pis poor comment you would been none of the wiser

i geuss every man shed needs a set of digital vernias LOL just wondering does digital vernias give the exact read out every time specially working in imperial ?
