Hi Guy's,

Could anyone out there please help?

Just rush purchased some alloys on fleabay to fit on my 1990 defender 90 (2.5td) and not sure they fit. the link to the listing is as follows:

land rover range rover td5 wheels with tyres set of 5 on eBay (end time 04-Dec-10 16:12:55 GMT)

Wil they fit straight onto my 90 or will I need some spacers???

Thanks in advance.

No they won't fit your 90. There are 2 reasons for this. The first being that the pcd is wrong so the holes won't match with your wheel studs (that wheel is for a discovery2/range roverp38) and the second reason is cos you have drum brakes on the rear of yer landy.

I have just fitted some alloys to my 90. They came from a Disco 1, some fit over Drums, some don't. The Cyclone model seem to fit over the Drums.

However, you will not be able to get the end caps on - for that you will need spacers.

So, Range Rover Classics and Disco 1's will fit the studs, some will fit the Drums, Spacers will be needed for correct looks though.

PS. Don't forget alloy wheel nuts - the standard ones will not do.

Thanks Ratty & Robrennie for you help.

Wiltshire landyman.... I thought Forums were for help? Not the best comment to encourage new members. I did try to find the answer but needed more a definative answer for my model year.

I guess boosts would be the best answer then, is there a specific wheel code or pcb measurment that I could use as a guide as I don't want to buy the wrong wheels again?

Thanks again for you help

Apart from not being Boost alloys (they are Deep Dish) they will fit with spacers. Without fitting spacers they may foul the hub and the centre-cap definately can't be fitted, using spacers cures both these problems completely. When buying spacers for use with alloys make sure you buy the ones with the central spigot and not just flat ones, the spigot locates the wheel and takes the load.

You could get some adapters to fit the alloys you have already bought but they are more expensive than normal spacers and it is probably just worth cutting your losses and getting rid.

As already stated, don't forget the new wheel-nuts for the alloys.

I do not know much about Disco's so take this with caution.

I'm pretty sure only Disco mark 1 will fit, you will need the wheel spacers - I fitted 30mm ones. Pease note that with 225 tyres they are only just legally within the width of the wagon.

Stick with Disco 1's and 30mm Spacers and you will be fine.

Thanks again for your helps guys.

So to recap.

I should look for disco 1 alloys and then buy some spacers for them but not the cheap flat ones?

Am I right in thinking that If I'm looking at defender alloys then they must be from a pre 1990 model then as the newer ones had the disc brakes?

No. If you want to fit alloys without spacers thn you will need freestyles. Apart from that you will need spacers or a later type axle. Defenders didn't have alloys when they had drum brakes.

After a quick search I think it may just be the 'firestyle' alloys which are the freestyle replica's that fit without modification.

The reality is that you are always taking a risk of Ebay. With all good intent, the seller may call it something but it may not be.

The fitting of spacers makes the whole thing more predicatable, from what I can tell, all Disco 1 and Range Rover Classic will fit. Most others will not.

Freestyle is a style not necessarily a model, it does not mean they will fit.

OK so 30mm spacers it is then!

Thanks for all your advice, unfortunatly it seems like a minefield getting some alloys for my 90. So the classic range rover was called a p38? And alloys that fit this or the disco 1 will be the correct fitting for my landy WITH spacers?

NO. The classic was called a classic. The next one down the line was a p38. The newest ones are L322 or sports.

Alloys that fit a disco1 or a defender of any age (not sure about the newest puma engined defenders though) will fit with spacers.
