Hi Dave, who was it that did your remap - not Jeremy Fearns by any chance?

Dave

Something isn't right. A good quality tune won't smoke. It does look like the car is overfuelling or not combusting though. Your boost should be around 1.2bar so it's not excessively wrong.

If the MAF has been changed for a poor quality unit, it could cause a problem. The TD5 MAF's are cheap so either go genuine or OEM VDO (I think Bearmach supply VDO units). For a test, disconnect it and take it on a road test to see if it makes any difference.

Yes the hawkeye can test the injector and the result is about from -1 to 4 on all of them don't think that's bad but not sure will try takeing maf and give it A run see what happens I got the new one from paddocks at Matlock £48 or so my be have to het one from dealer I'll let you no how test gos thanks David

Hi David, those readings look good to me, so I think you can discount the MAF as the source of the problem.

Have you checked the condition of the rubber turbo hoses - inside and outside - to see if there are any splits or delamination?

Interestingly, a couple of months after I had my Disco remapped, it seemed to start smoking the same as yours.

My mate, who did the map for me, hooked it up and could,nt find anything out of order, so reduced the fuelling a bit which stopped the smoking.

He did explain to me the possible reason,s for the change in the fuelling and " slack " between calling for boost and getting boost within the map at low revs.

ill take a look at the turbo hoses in the morning see what i can see or may be just put some silicone hoses on and see what happens and hope that does the job as it doing my head in now cant see whats behind me most of the time for black smoke thanks for all the tips so far and ill keep u updated

Is it definately BLACK and not GREY?

Sounds to me like it'll be grey and that your turbo is fubar'd.

Afternoon mate. Long time no see.

They're still about. Caught up with MHM, Daftlet, Boomer etc last weekend in Basingstoke.

Where've ya been?

too busy for tinterweb... looked in every now and again but not had time for more than that!

what ya been up to?

lol what haven't I been up to.. well other than anything to do with landrovers!!! - mind you .. you should see the saab lol

Did ya get yer v8 sorted?

ermm.. nope.. wanna buy it? I've put it in the for sale!!!! gonna cut my losses and save up for one in decent nick and start again..

Is that a Vectra in disguise or a real one?;)

it's a real (ish one) '96 lpt convertible.. perfick for the summer!!! but GM chassis :((
When you say decent one does that mean yer going for a diesel defender?;):p

ermm... no I mean another V8.. oh if only I could afford to join the big boys in the deependers tho.. mind you I need the seats now so it'd have to be a county!

would also be worth checking yer oil level. Although it's usually associated with pre-2003 td5's there is an issue with injectors and/or cracked head leaking diesel into the sump and causing the oil level to rise.
