Hi Guys

Got to change the rear fuel filter on my 53 TD4 (Near the wheel arch) this aftn.

Searching on here shows is it can be a pain in the ass :(

See lots of mention of following Ming's advice/posts but I can't find it by searching :(

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks, I had already read that one but had seen reference to Ming's guide on a number of posts, although I couldn't locate it :(

I did it in the end yesterday afternoon. One bolt came undone easily with some WD40 and a wire brush, the other one at 90 degrees would not budge. However the metal bracket had almost come off the plastic housing so with a bit of pulling and twisting it came free leaving the bracket attached to the car!

The filter was very difficult to remove, had to resort to drilling a 10mm hole in the end of the plastic unit and hammering it out with an old SDS drill bit!
The filter was dated 2007, fitted to a 53 plate TD4 so definately overdue for replacement.

New, non genuine, filter was just as difficult to get back in, even after cleaning the housing completely and greasing it up.

There was a lot of crap in the sediment filter, so definately worth clearing this out on a regular basis.

Never mind, all done now!

Aren't the fuel filters meant to last 5 years? I plan to change mine every 2.
I've changed mine 3 times last year for various reasons. First time because a garage I trusted had used a 3 lb hammer to beat the granny out the filter while the assembly was still attached to the car! 2nd time to replace the hammered filter. 3rd time because I wasn't happy with the pattern part I had fitted, and also to replace the earth strap the garage had destroyed.

Service schedule says fuel filter change every 60K

I suggest more often - especially if you're still using supermarket diesel.

I stopped using it as I got less mpg and smoke on overtaking - plus free crap every now and again - especially from Morrisons. :(

Not cost effective - not even with an extra 5p off from Tesco.

Singvogel.
