Good evening everyone, got a friend in need. He’s got a horrible noise coming from his td4 when revved or under acceleration. Told him about this website but he’s not too tech savvy so here I am. I haven’t a scooby but sounds rough. I have put a video on my YouTube.

Difficult to say without seeing the vehicle first hand, but it does sound like a broken crank to me. There's a misfire along with the knocking noise, which points to a crank failure.
With the engine off, and the key in your pocket, try putting a spanner on the crank pulley nut, and give the crank an rock back and forth in an anticlockwise and clockwise direction to see if there's any slop. My guess is you might feel a few degrees of looseness, which would show a broken crank.

If there's no looseness, then look around the crank pulley for silvery flecks of metal, which means the pulley has de-laminated, and is hitting the engine block.
However this issue doesn't cause a misfire, which this engine has.

Having had the above failure on a Td4 I have to sadly admit it did sound like the video you have posted.
The above test will confirm. Mine had about 10-15 degrees of free play at the pulley end.
A fractured crank causes the pulley to strike the crank case even when the pulley is good.

Will have a look tomorrow and do the test as he left it at my lock up. Shame as the car is absolutely immaculate.
If the crank has failed, it's not a big deal. A replacement engine is freely available on ebay, as it was used in the Rover 75 too, and prices aren't high for them either.
It's about a day's work to replace the engine with a second hand replacement.

It can be dropped out complete with box or, as I did, you can leave the auto in and hoist engine from top.

I found that I had to remove the auto mox mount to push it over a bit for clearance on the drive plate (flywheel) as the TD4 is quite tight width wise compared to the V6 or 1.8.
Having just had the auto Box out, it is quite a weight to move if you don't need to!!

Had a look today and there are no metal shavings around the crank pulley and to be honest there doesn’t seam to be any play in the crank (not 100% what I’m feeling for but you can’t rock it back and forth)

Completely stumped
