Freelander 1 TD4 engine oil?

My wifes 2002 TD4 is due an oil change, as is my own 2.7 Jaguar XJ diesel.
For the Jag I use Millers XF Longlife C1 5w30.
The reason for this is that it meets specification Ford M2C934-B which is the right one for the Jag.
I have used Millers products of one kind or another for over twenty years and run some of my cars up to very high mileages on them, and never had an engine ever show signs of wear (apart from a 305 XUD which started to loose compression through valve wear at 208,000 miles).
As both the Jag and the TD4 take slightly annoying amounts it would be easier for me just to stick the same oil in both.

There's no reason not to use Millers C1 in the TD4 is there?

It's too thin for the TD4 or for the Lion TDV6 too. Manufacturers only specify a 30 grade oil, too eek out every last drop of fuel. They don't care if the bearings fail after the warranty period, so they list light oil to improve MPG.
I always use a 5w40 fully synthetic oil in everything, especially if it's done more then 50K miles.
For best bearing protection, always use the heaviest oil recommended in the manufacturer's literature for the engine, at the temperature where the vehicle is use. The TD4 showed this as a 5w40, with a temperature between -10 and over 30°C. The lion will also have a similar oil grade requirement, so I'd always put 5w40 fully synthetic in those too.

On my Peugeots I used to use Millers XF Longlife.
This is a 5w40 synthetic. It doesn't meet the Jag specs (but then only a 5w30 will), but it does say suitable for DPFs.
Maybe I should go back to that.

Kwik Fit are currently doing an oil (manufacturers recommended) & filter change for £ 55.00.

It's called Essential Care service (or something like that).

If you look on the voucher sites they also have a 10% off offer kicking about.

I got my wife's CRV done the other day and they said its the same price for a TD4.

I don;t think I could get the oil & filter for that price.

OK I looked at this some more.
The manufacturer spec for the Jag 2.7 is quite clear and it should have 5w30 in it.
However it's also pretty clear that this isn't right for the Hippo TD4. oh well.
I think that I will put the 5w30 in the Jag but I will have to buy something else for the TD4

Works out at £1.80 a Litre plus a filter, oil change for less than £18.
