Hi all,

Could anyone tell me the size & if possible a pic/description of what the engine cover bolts for a 2001 Td4 are please.. I've owned this one for 3 weeks now & it came with the cover held on by what looks like a stud with a washer & bolt through it at the top of the cover & a black cable tie on the right hand side of it....

Obviously it's been off & not fastened back on correctly which is what i intend to do if one of you gents could be so kind as to tell/show me the correct fixings to use.:)..

thanks..
William...

is yours a big cover with a land rover badge and common rail diesel written on it? if it is i've just ordered all the bolts/nuts/grommets for one so can get you all the part numbers you need lol

edit: like this one?

Mate your a star :D..
that's the ticket.. could you post up the link please where you got yours & I'll order a set as well..

thanks again.
William..

ok mate, here goes lol

you need to have a look at the cover and the engine to see exactly what you need but the whole lot consists of :

3 x grommets LYA105070 - £1.28 ea (these are big fat rubber washers that sit in the fixing holes in the cover so you might already have these.)

1 x bolt LYG000040 - £1.44 (this is the front fixing)

2 x Stud LYR000040 - 40p ea (these are the rear tweo fixings and sit on the engine so you might have these as well)

2 x nut/washer LYH000040 £1.45 ea (these fasten down onto the studs)

And thats it!!! All prices plus vat from main dealer and all available singularly (they might try and charge you for 5 of each otherwise)

Hope that helps, if you need anymore info let me know :)

Thanks a million matey,:D

I'll get myself down to the local stealer ship @

Pentland Land Rover
1 Lanark Road

& get these parts ;) I'll post up how i got on re-the service & availability of them from the dealer too..

great stuff!! As i said earlier, have a good look at what you've got already, you may find yo only need the bolt and the nuts cos i can't see anyone taking the studs out of the engine and the grommets actually sit in the cover on a lip and are hard to get out!

Had to order all the parts as the stealer ship didnt have them in stock.. They will be in on Tuesday, cost £10.78 incl vat so happy with that.:)

The parts guy was quite helpful too & also told me that pentland land rover Edin had won the contract for the whole of Edinburgh so would be moving to a new mega garage/showroom soon out at Newbridge where there is a new car village with merc, bmw, lexus garages..

He also said it would have 17 bays for servicing/repairs but i doubt i'll be getting anything done there because of the massive servicing cost im sure they'll charge...

Still they'll only be 10mins from me when they move so any oem parts that i have to buy will be easy to pick up..

Great stuff!! Had to wait for mine as well, didn't really expect them to have them on the shelf though. I was even more chuffed because this cover was not fitted to any TD4's after 2003 and are rare as rocking horse!! I picked one up for a fiver cos the oil cap cover was missing and when i was ordering the fixings the delaer informed me that a new one is £196 + vat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

£196+vat!!.. God how do they justify that price.
No wonder fleabay + car breakers make good hunting
grounds..Lol ...

had to buy a bolt for my rear hub assembly from stealer yesterday.. £16.75!!!!!!!
I'll deffo be onto trading standards with that little gem!!

like i said fleabay & breakers yards are a god send as long as you don't mind getting dirty. it's not every ones cup of tea & you have to be carefull etc but that price is bloody outrages .. rip off britain ...

great stuff!! my bag of bits is in the boot and the engine cover is still in the shed :p

LANDROVER FREELANDER SIDE STEPS RIVNUTS AND FIXINGS on eBay (end time 04-Apr-11 17:15:26 BST)

when trying to get the air filter off yesterday i noticed 1 of the allen key bolts has become seized so need something to free that up too now..

the list goes on with my little jobs, good thing i like diy mechanics etc..:D

I have recently bought a 2002 Freelander TD4. I noticed that the front bolt on the engine cover was missing. I bought a replacement but can't seem to see where it bolts on the engine. Could anybody help?

Thanks

My nuts are missing too, on the engine cover that is, I asked at a local Freelander specialist (self titled?) if he had any from the vehicles he was breaking and he said they didn't get many in with the covers on, people took them off as they caused overheating which I though was a bit dubious, wondered if he just couldn't be bothered looking for any. But I'm going to try and make some up from a selection of stainless steel fastners I've gathered over the years when rebuilding bikes, can't believe how much the Landrover one's cost!
