Hi guys
I'm in the process of purchasing a clutch kit for a new project car (more to follow soon) and am doing the usual ebay/Eurocarparts/various suppliers searches and had a nasty thought.
Everybody always says (including me) to buy good quality kits from the likes of LUK, Borg and Beck, AP etc. But when searching through ebay it occurred to me that the kits listed could be dodgy cheap copies made to look like good ones.
Has anyone ever paid for a quality clutch kit and been suspicious it was a cheap copy or found it didn't last very long.
I know cheap copies of quality air filters are everywhere in ebay so wondered it the same was true of clutch kits.

Yes Ali, there are cheap copies of everything. I go by this rule.
If it seems to good to be true, then it probably is. ;)
I have one of those cheap copies of a well respected air filter, that I picked up really cheap. I knew it was likely to be a fake, so bought it to try.
However you don't want to be trying out a potentially fake clutch kit.

LOL, I did the same for my MGF Nodge. :p
I guess, so long as I make sure to buy from a respected supplier it doesn't really matter if they are selling through ebay or their own website. I'll just avoid unknown suppliers. ;)

I decided to buy it from a local motor factor. Phoned them this morning for a price and they're supplying a LUK 3 piece kit for £178. I could get one a bit cheaper from Carparts4less but it was AP not LUK (not sure if that matters but.....) and if there were any issues with it I'd have the hassle of posting it back, plus I prefer to support local suppliers.

Both AP and LUK are OE parts suppliers to many vehicle manufacturers. My personal preference would be AP, but both makes produce high quality components.
