Hello all,
Have just been mucking about with my new Hawkeye. All is good engine wise but the following fault codes come up on the transmission. Its a 2006 TD4 Auto.

Fault 0705 - Inhibitor Switch Input - Multiple / No Signal
Fault 1605 - Faulty Controller EEPROM
Fault 1815 - Tiptronic inputs - multiple / no signal

The hippo drives just fine, selects gears ok, changes up and down ok. No dodgy noises. Auto box oil was changed 12,000 miles ago. Hippo has done 89,000 miles.

Anyone know what these codes mean? By the looks of them I'd guess they are electrical fault codes. Am I ok just to clear these to see if they come back or do they spell trouble on the way? As everything is working ok I think they may be one off faults which if cleared wont come back. Anyone else seen these?

hi mate

if it's performing ok I would personally clear the faults and then recheck them in a months time

I've also got a hawkeye and went through all the dtcs, cleared them and rechecked it, no dtcs came up,

hope that may help abit

These tye of fault codes are usually generated on start up due to the can bus system. Some modules take a while to talk to each other.
Clear the codes and then when starting the Hippo, wait until all lights have gone out on the dash. Do this for a few goes and then read the codes again. There shouldn't be any.
As it drives fine, I wouldn't worry too much.

Check the ABS, dash (I Pack) and SRS as you will probably find other faults logged there too. I had nice collection of faults on all my ECUs. None have returned in the last 6 months.

Apologies as off topic here.

Mike. Has your gearbox issue where it changed to 5th, dropped back to 4th, before changing to 5th again been solved?
Mine is still doing it but since fitting the Synergy, it's more noticeable then ever.

Mine is now changing into gear fine (synergy removed) , just the odd blip if I speed up/slow down when it's on a gear change, but that's to be expected with the jatco.
When I briefly put the Synergy back on (tuesday) it was OK for about 20 miles, but then the 4th 5th gear change went back to being indecisive. I took it back off due to worn roll bar bushings, they were banging! But to be honest I think I'll leave it off now.
From what I can work out, hypothesis. The tcm seems to get confused by the Synergy, I've noticed that coasting down hill with synergy it drops out of gear, without it stays in gear on overrun. After a gear drop, with synergy, the HDC light and or abs will illuminate for a while then reset. Without synergy, it never does this.
With my older tcm I have intermediate speed sensors (your later version does not) I can only surmise that these are becoming confused, which is why they took them out(not just on LR, but on VAG and Nissan). In an extreme case, with synergy, after coasting about 2 miles the lights illuminated then the gearbox faulted f4 and went into limp mode. Without synergy I could coast all day and no problems. So I'll leave it off unless I find a different culprit.
As for the 4th 5th problem on yours, try this.
Take the battery off completely.
Undo both transmission barrel connectors, clean and re-attach firmly.
Remove the tcm, clean contacts, replace.
Clean earth in front of battery box on wing.
Run a separate earth from top of autobox, where the main earth connects, to a secure anchor point.
Replace battery.
This solved all my gear change issues, 4th-5th, 3rd-4th slip, and jolt from 4th-3rd.
It's a pleasure to drive again :)

Thanks for the update Mike. Mine definitely messes about more with the Synergy active. However I like the was the engine responds to throttle input, so I just need to solve the hunting into 5th. I've also noticed, even before the the Synergy went on, that the TC locks almost instantly, when changing into 5th. This didn't happen with the V6 at all. All 5 gears selected fine with the TC only locking after a few seconds in 4th or 5th depending on speed.
These boxes are very odd. I wonder how easy it would be to use an aftermarket stand alone TCM instead of the factory offering.

There have been many discussions over the years about replacing the autobox / tcm. Nothing has ever come to fruition though.
The Jatco was used because it's cheap, and it was only ever meant for 2wd. But it was a hatchet job that made it useable in 4wd. Good old LR.

I know of one Jatco being used successfully with a stand alone controller. However this is on a trialler, so ABS,HDC, TC and CC are unimportant. However the box works as it should and can have all changed points tweeked to suit all conditions, loads and speeds. It can even lock the TC at any point, in any gear. If only such a system could work on the Freelander.

From reading about this over the years, it's the HDC that's the main issue. But I'd love a tcm that could be programmed to change at set points. Even the tiptronic won't let you change up under 1750rpm.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll clear the dtcs and report back if anything strage happens. Will check the ABS and SRS too wihlst I'm at it.

Hello all,

Ok - I cleared the codes and have done about 250 miles since. Two of them haven't come back, but this one has:

Fault 1815 - Tiptronic inputs - multiple / no signal

Still drives fine and changes up and down the gears just fine.

Anything to worry about or shall I just leave it and see how it goes? The interweb doesn't give any clues as to what it means.
