Hi folks
I saw one post on here some years back re a TD27 conversion into a 90 I think. I have a Series 2A 88 with a Nissan LD28 (gutless) and an Atlas 5 speed manual, both coming out. Has anyone done a TD27T conversion and if so any idea where I can get an adapter plate off the shelf? Any tips appreciated...
Cheers in advance.

Is that the 90 bhp striaght 6? I would have thought that would perform OK (not a rocket but acceptable). Is it producing the power it should?

Hi rob1miles
thanks for your reply and a good question. I can get to 80 in 4th on the flat, creep up to 90km/hr on flat in 5th, then inclines speed drops away dramatically. Fuel economy appalling 5 km per litre. An engineer suggested I get injectors and fuel pump looked at, I had my head in the turbo space to get more power but maybe I should get the basics check out first. TD27 zippy and quiet compare to LD28, noisy as hell.

Those numbers look way off. A 6 cyl indirect injection (pre-chamber) diesel should not be that noisy. As comparison I run a 3.3 Perkins 4 cyl in a LWB with camper body and roof rack. The engine is 63 bhp and it will pull up to 65 mph (105 kph) on the level, it slows a lot on hills but we weighed it at 2.2 ton. Its doing around 30 mpg which looks to be about double what you are getting. The Nissan is more modern and should outperform the 1960's Perkins by a decent margin. I would run a compression test and also put a tank of injector cleaner through it. In the end you may still want a change, but it a few simple things buy a bit more time it may be worth it. How does the 6 cyl fit in, it looks a bit long.

Hmmmm. good advice and food for thought. Impressed by your numbers that's for sure. I will maybe get the diesel boys to give it a really good service before making a decision one way or the other. That would be an early xmas pressie getting a boost in the LD28 department.

Previous owner moved cross member forward, and installed holden radiator which is also forward of original. I'll take a snap of it and load up if I can later today, just FYI.

I was curious about the LD28, looks like it was the engine in the Datsun Cedric (amongst other things), and in that its rated as 31mpg combined cycle and 0-60 in 14 secs for something that probably weighs more than an 88 so it looks like it running very rough or clapped out, but they used Nissan diesels in London taxis (the TX1) where the get 500,000 miles which would be 10 lifetimes for a series!

Just looked at that site, it took a while but the MPG is on there - very impressive - 42 mpg extra urban, over 30 combined. Probably worth one more shot.
